This hands-on role covers accounts, reconciliations, month-end reporting, compliance and audit support. You’ll also maintain the knowledge and systems needed to provide backup for the weekly payroll of around 100 to 200 employees. When formally appointed during the Manager’s absence, you’ll help coordinate the day-to-day work of two administration staff within delegated authority.
About Phillip Island RSL
Phillip Island RSL Sub-Branch exists first and foremost to support veterans, current and former service personnel, and their families. It also operates a member-based entertainment venue with a gaming area, sports bar and Lone Pine Bistro.
Beyond hospitality, the RSL supports wellbeing, inclusion and community participation through initiatives such as the Day Club, Men’s Shed and RSL Active. Its values of Service, Mateship, Respect, Honesty and Accountability guide its work with members and the wider Phillip Island community.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager of Finance and Administration, you will:
- Process accounts payable and receivable, payments, banking and reconciliations across three entities.
- Complete month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting support.
- Reconcile gaming, stock,
cash and ATM transactions, investigating and following up discrepancies.
- Prepare and support statutory, regulatory and audit reporting, including BAS and annual compliance returns.
- Provide trained backup for weekly payroll, including validation and reconciliation, and maintain clear procedures and audit records.
About you
You will bring:
- Recent experience in a senior finance, bookkeeping or similar role, including reconciliations and month-end processing.
- Experience with complex payroll, ideally in hospitality, a licensed club or another seven-day operation.
- Practical knowledge of penalty rates, leave, superannuation, PAYG withholding and payroll tax.
- Proficiency in MYOB and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to learn systems such as Lightyear, Jensen and payroll software.
- Sound judgement, strong attention to detail, clear communication skills and discretion with confidential information.
A qualification in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll or business administration is desirable. Substantial relevant experience may be accepted in its place. Experience with gaming reconciliations, BAS and regulatory reporting would also be an advantage.
What we offer
- Ongoing permanent part-time work, three days per week.
- Access to an Employee Assistance Program.
- The chance to support an organisation with a strong connection to veterans and the Phillip Island community.
