Southern Cross Hotel combines pub dining, bars, accommodation and function spaces in Sydney’s Inner West. Part of Oscars Group, the venue welcomes locals, visitors and groups for casual meals, drinks and special celebrations.

We are looking for a capable Chef who takes pride in good food, consistent presentation and an organised kitchen. You will work with the kitchen team to deliver everyday bistro service and prepare food for functions and group bookings.

Key duties

- Prepare, cook and present dishes according to established recipes and quality standards.
- Contribute to menu planning and develop specials using seasonal ingredients.
- Estimate ingredient requirements and food costs, and assist with ordering supplies.
- Organise daily preparation and manage your section throughout service.
- Check the freshness and quality of ingredients and monitor dishes during preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Coordinate with kitchen and front-of-house staff to deliver meals accurately and promptly.
- Prepare meals for dietary requirements and follow appropriate allergen management procedures.
- Maintain portion standards,



monitor ingredient usage and minimise food waste.
- Ensure correct receiving, storage, labelling and rotation of food supplies.
- Maintain food safety, temperature control, cleaning and kitchen hygiene procedures.
- Guide junior kitchen staff and demonstrate cooking techniques as required.
- Assist with planning and preparing food for functions and special events.

What you’ll bring

- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience as a Chef in a pub, bistro or restaurant kitchen.
- Robust cooking skills and attention to flavour, presentation and consistency.
- Sound knowledge of food safety and allergen management.
- Good communication, teamwork and time management skills.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Permanent Full Time role with $79000 - $85000 (plus super)
