The role The Java Application Architect is responsible for defining and governing the application architecture, design standards, and modernization roadmap for the portfolio. The role will provide technical leadership across mission-critical applications, drive adoption of up-to-date Java and microservices architectures, and ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise technology standards.

● Define and maintain application architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and design patterns across the portfolio.

● Develop application modernization roadmaps, including migration of monolithic applications to microservices and cloud-native architectures.

● Lead architecture reviews and provide technical governance for application design, development, integration, and deployment activities.

● Design scalable, resilient, and secure Java-based solutions using modern frameworks and architectural patterns.

● Define microservices architecture standards,

including service decomposition, API contracts, service communication, resiliency patterns, and observability requirements.

● Drive adoption of domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architectures, API-first design, and reusable service patterns.

● Design and govern RESTful APIs, asynchronous integrations, and messaging solutions using industry best practices.

● Collaborate with Platform Engineering teams to ensure applications are optimized for cloud platforms, containerization, Kubernetes, and CI/CD deployment models.

● Establish architecture patterns for containerized application deployments on Kubernetes and AWS EKS environments.

● Ensure application solutions meet security, availability, performance, scalability, and regulatory requirements.

● Partner with Security teams to incorporate secure coding practices, vulnerability management, authentication, authorization, and data protection standards.

● Drive application observability through logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, performance tuning, and proactive health monitoring.

● Define non-functional requirements including availability, disaster recovery, performance, capacity management, and operational support models.

● Support technical decision-making for application integration, middleware, API gateways, service mesh, and cloud-native technologies.

● Contribute to DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release automation, and Infrastructure as Code adoption.

● Create and maintain architecture documentation, solution designs, reference patterns, standards, and knowledge repositories.

● Identify technical debt, architectural risks, and improvement opportunities, and develop remediation roadmaps to improve long-term maintainability.
