About us:

Moogji Aboriginal Council (Moogji) came into being in 1989 when the then Aboriginal Women and Children’s Group and Moogji Aboriginal Cooperative combined.

Today at Moogji we support community members through their life journeys to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes possible, strengthen cultural and community connections and reach employment and economic development goals. We do this through the provision of quality services and programs in a culturally safe environment, facilitating employment and training opportunities, supporting strong community leadership and advocating for community needs and aspirations.

Summary:

As the Aboriginal Famliy Wellbeing Coordinator, you will:

Provide a trusted, locally based point of engagement for Aboriginal men and fathers. Work alongside Moogji’s existing Family Wellbeing Coordinator to strengthen men’s wellbeing, cultural connection, safe fathering and respectful relationships. Support men to understand the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma while taking responsibility for their behaviour and the safety of women and children.

The worker will co-design local activities with men and Elders, facilitate yarning circles and healing activities, provide individual mentoring and referrals, and maintain contact during and after Dardi programs. Specialist behaviour change delivery will develop through Dardi training, assessed competence and supervision.

Responsibilities:

- Build trusting relationships with Aboriginal men, fathers and Elders through outreach, yarning and existing Moogji services. Address practical barriers to participation.
- Co-design the local program’s activities, locations and delivery arrangements with men and Elders, while preserving Dardi’s specialist model and safety requirements

- Provide individual mentoring, agreed goals, documented support plans and ongoing follow-up, including after structured programs
- Support men to understand trauma, emotional regulation, healthy relationships and the impact of harmful behaviour on partners and children
- Identify and respond to family violence concerns using Moogji procedures and the risk tools and MARAM responsibilities assigned to the role. Seek Dardi or other specialist consultation when needs or risks exceed competence.

Requirements:

- Prioritise the safety of victim-survivors and children in all engagement, referral and program decisions.
- Support healing without excusing violence. Challenge minimisation, victim-blaming and justification of harmful behaviour respectfully and consistently.
- Respect cultural protocols, confidentiality, skilled boundaries and each person’s right to safe, separate support.
- Work within training and delegated responsibilities. Seek specialist advice and escalate risk promptly. Participation or completion must never be presented as proof of safety, grounds for reunification or a guarantee of favourable legal reports.
- Training in First Aid and CPR within the past three years
- A National Police Check will be required before finalising the appointment and then routinely every five years. NB: If you have worked overseas an international police check many also be required.
- A Working with Children Check is required prior to commencement and then every five years.
- A current Victorian Driver’s License.
- Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination must be provided and maintained continually under Department of Health guidelines.
- Work rights in Australia or be eligible for such.

Please Note: This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
