Job description

Help tell the story of one of regional Victoria's leading food security organisations.

At Geelong Foodshare, we believe everyone deserves reliable access to healthy, nutritious and culturally appropriate food.

For more than 35 years, we've been the central food security organisation for the Greater Geelong region, connecting surplus food with people who need it most through a strong network of community partners.

Today our work extends far beyond food relief. We operate Social Supermarkets, deliver food literacy and education programs, support community growing initiatives, and work alongside more than 80 community partners to create long-term food security across our region.

We're looking for a creative, organised and enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Coordinator to help bring our work and community impact to life.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career communicator to grow their skills while sharing stories that connect with volunteers, donors, partners and the wider community.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Impact, and working closely with the Senior Programs & Partnerships Manager, you'll support the delivery of Geelong Foodshare's Marketing & Communications Strategy and help coordinate our day-to-day communications. You'll have guidance and support from both roles, while gaining opportunities to take ownership of practical tasks and projects.

You'll spend time across our Social Supermarkets, education programs, agency partnerships, volunteer activities and community initiatives, creating content that shows the impact of Geelong Foodshare's work.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being creative, staying organised and pitching in where needed in a small, collaborative not-for-profit team.

What you'll be doing

Your work will include:

- Supporting the delivery of Geelong Foodshare's approved marketing and communications plan and content calendar.
- Writing, creating and scheduling social media posts, newsletters and email campaigns, with content review and guidance as needed.
- Updating the Geelong Foodshare website with stories, photos, news and program information.
- Creating simple digital and printed promotional materials using Canva.

- Capturing photographs and short-form videos at Social Supermarkets, agency visits, Cook. Connect. Share. and Grow. Connect. Share. sessions, volunteer activities and community events.
- Helping gather quotes, interviews and stories from participants, volunteers, partners and supporters, with appropriate consent and care.
- Drafting content and visuals for impact stories, annual reports, presentations, fundraising campaigns and donor or partner communications.
- Supporting fundraising and community engagement campaigns with promotional content and partner acknowledgements.
- Assisting with media release drafts and local media opportunities when required.
- Helping staff prepare brochures, presentations and other communications resources.
- Organising and maintaining a shared library of approved photos, videos and marketing materials.
- Tracking basic social media, website and email engagement and sharing straightforward performance updates.

About you

We're looking for an approachable, creative and organised person who enjoys telling stories and learning new skills. You might have one to three years of relevant experience, or be a recent graduate with strong practical skills and examples of your work.

You'll bring:

- Good writing and editing skills, with an ability to create clear, accurate and engaging content.
- Confidence using social media and creating posts or simple digital content.
- Experience using Canva or a similar design tool.
- Confidence capturing photos and short videos on a smartphone.
- Good organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage your workload with guidance.
- A friendly, collaborative approach and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and help where needed.
- Respectful communication, sensitivity and sound judgement when capturing or sharing personal stories and images.

- An interest in Geelong Foodshare's mission and making a positive community impact.

We'd love it if you also have:

- Qualifications or relevant study in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or digital media.
- Experience updating a website (Word Press is a plus).
- Familiarity with Mailchimp, Meta Business Suite or basic video editing tools.
- Experience or volunteering in a not-for-profit or community organisation.
- An interest in case studies, grant-related storytelling, SEO or basic website analytics.
- A current Victorian driver's licence.
