Quality Control Supervisor – Transformers & Electrical Equipment

Grant Transformers | Malaga, Perth WA
Full-time

Help ensure every product leaving our factory meets the Grant standard.

Grant Transformers supplies transformers and power infrastructure solutions to mining, industrial, renewable energy, data centre and infrastructure projects across Australia.

As our business grows, we are seeking a practical, technically capable Quality Control Supervisor to lead factory quality control and ensure our products meet approved designs, customer specifications and applicable standards.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes ownership, identifies problems early and works closely with engineering, production and project teams to resolve them.

The role

- You will oversee quality inspections from incoming materials through manufacturing, assembly, testing and final dispatch. You will help ensure quality is built into each stage of production, with clear inspection records and timely resolution of defects.

- Our product range includes oil-filled and dry-type transformers, kiosk substations and associated electrical equipment.

Key responsibilities

- Coordinate incoming, in-process and final inspections against approved drawings, specifications and inspection and test plans.

- Inspect mechanical construction, dimensions, welding, surface preparation, paint finishes, assembly, wiring, labelling and accessories.

- Verify that components and materials match approved requirements and maintain appropriate traceability.

- Establish inspection hold points and ensure required checks are completed before work progresses.

- Coordinate with testing personnel to verify completion of required tests and review records for accuracy and completeness.

- Support customer inspections, witness testing and Factory Acceptance Tests.

- Identify,

record and manage non-conformances, including containment, corrective actions and verification before closure.

- Work with engineering and production to investigate root causes and prevent recurring defects.

- Verify completion of required inspections, documentation and defect rectification before recommending equipment for release.

- Maintain inspection reports, checklists, photographic records and quality documentation for project handover.

- Monitor calibration status and condition of inspection and measuring equipment.

- Provide practical quality guidance and training to production personnel.

- Report quality trends, recurring issues and improvement opportunities to management.

- Support supplier quality reviews and follow up defects with suppliers and OEM partners.

About you

- You combine strong attention to detail with practical manufacturing knowledge. You can confidently raise a quality concern, explain what needs to change and work constructively with others to achieve the right outcome.

Essential experience and skills

- Experience in quality control within electrical equipment manufacturing, transformers, switchgear, substations or a closely related industry.

- A relevant electrical or mechanical trade qualification, engineering qualification, or substantial equivalent industry experience.

- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, wiring diagrams and inspection and test plans.

- Experience managing non-conformances, root cause investigations and corrective actions.

- Strong documentation, communication and organisational skills.

- Ability to prioritise inspections in a busy manufacturing environment and supervise quality activities.

- Confidence to hold or escalate non-conforming work and verify that defects have been properly resolved.

- A strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

- Direct experience with oil-filled or dry-type transformers and kiosk substations.

- Familiarity with relevant AS/NZS and IEC standards, including the AS/NZS 60076 transformer series.

- Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems and audits.

- Exposure to transformer routine testing and Factory Acceptance Tests.

- Experience inspecting welded fabrication, protective coatings and electrical assemblies.

- Experience working with overseas manufacturers and suppliers.

What success looks like

- Defects are identified and resolved early.

- Inspections and quality records are accurate and completed on time.

- Recurring defects and avoidable rework are reduced.

- Customer inspections are well prepared and professionally managed.

- Products are released only when required checks and documentation are complete.

- Quality, engineering, production and project teams work together with explicit accountability.

Why join Grant Transformers?

- Take ownership of a role with a direct impact on product quality and customer confidence.

- Work across wide-ranging equipment and projects serving major Australian industries.

- Join a growing business that values practical solutions, initiative and accountability.

- Help improve our inspection processes and manufacturing standards.
