About the role

The Design and Technology Teacher (Woodwork and Workshop Specialist) is responsible for delivering engaging, innovative and curriculum-aligned Design and Technology programs for Middle School and Years 7-10. The role fosters creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and practical skills through hands-on learning experiences, with a strong emphasis on Woodwork and Timber Technologies. The successful incumbent will possess substantial experience working in a woodwork workshop environment and demonstrate the ability to inspire students through practical, project-based learning. The teacher will support students during a critical stage of development by building confidence, resilience, practical capabilities and safe work practices. The role may also contribute to Technology and Enterprise subjects, Mathematics Teaching and broader STEM initiatives across the Secondary School.

Key responsibilities

- Deliver Design and Technology programs across Middle School and Years 7-10, with a particular focus on Woodwork and Timber Technologies

- Teach related Technology and Enterprise subjects and Mathematics as required by the School

- Contribute to interdisciplinary STEM learning initiatives where appropriate

- Develop engaging and contemporary learning experiences that encourage creativity, innovation and design thinking

- Foster students' practical skills in woodworking, design processes, materials technologies and workshop practices

- Differentiate teaching and learning programs to support a diverse range of student abilities and learning styles

- Assess, monitor and report on student achievement and progress in accordance with School requirements

- Maintain a safe, organised and productive workshop environment

- Ensure all tools,



machinery and equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with safe work practices

- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments

About you

- Relevant teaching qualifications and current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia

- Demonstrated experience teaching Design and Technology, particularly within Middle School and Years 7-10

- Extensive practical experience in woodwork, carpentry, cabinetmaking, joinery, furniture-making or a related trade environment

- Demonstrated ability to safely supervise students in a woodwork workshop environment, including the use of a laser cutter.

- Sound knowledge of workshop safety procedures, risk management and machinery operation

- Solid classroom management skills and the ability to engage adolescent learners

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community

- Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, pastoral care and child safety

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance, and evidence of right to work in Australia

- Certifications in Design and Technology will be viewed favourably
