The Opportunity
A new role has arisen for an experienced investment professional within compliance & risk management, performance, product, investment solutions or financial markets to join a growing investment management function as a Senior Risk & Compliance Business Partner.
Sitting within Line 1 and partnering closely with the Investment Management teams, you will help strengthen the way risk and compliance is embedded across the investment lifecycle as the function continues to grow and evolve.
This is not simply a governance or oversight role. You will work directly with investment stakeholders to understand how they operate, identify and assess risk, strengthen controls and processes, and embed practical risk and compliance disciplines into day-to-day investment activities.
The hiring manager is open to teaching or deepening some of the formal Line 1 framework pieces. What is harder to teach is genuine investment lifecycle knowledge, credibility with investment professionals and the ability to understand how risk manifests operationally across investments.
For this reason, we are open to candidates from a range of investment backgrounds. You may already be working in Line 1 investment risk and compliance, or your experience may have been developed across investment operations, custody, fund administration, securities, trading, investment risk and analytics, investment solutions or investment/product environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Investment Management stakeholders to strengthen Line 1 risk and compliance practices across the investment lifecycle.
- Build trusted relationships with investment professionals, providing practical advice and constructive challenge on risk,
controls and compliance matters.
- Support the ongoing development and implementation of risk and compliance frameworks within the investment function.
- Identify and assess operational and compliance risks and work with stakeholders to strengthen the controls used to manage them.
- Lead and support risk assessments, controls assurance, incident and issue management, obligations management and compliance activities.
- Identify gaps, emerging risks and opportunities to improve investment processes and controls.
- Promote robust risk ownership and help embed risk management into day-to-day investment activities and decision-making.
- Partner effectively with second-line Risk & Compliance and broader governance stakeholders.
- Contribute to initiatives that strengthen risk capability, governance and risk culture across the investment function.
About You
You will bring a strong understanding of investment management or the broader investment ecosystem, together with the confidence and stakeholder skills to influence experienced investment professionals.
Importantly, you do not need to have followed a traditional operational risk career path.
You will understand how investments move through the lifecycle, where operational and compliance risks can arise and how investment teams interact with operations, custodians,
administrators, external managers and other service providers.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of the investment management lifecycle and institutional investment environments.
- Experience partnering with investment professionals and/or complex investment operations.
- An understanding of risk, controls, governance and compliance within a regulated financial services environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build credibility as a trusted business partner.
- The confidence to provide constructive challenge while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Assist with APRA oversight activities, executing key deliverables and working through critical reporting deadlines and scopes of work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to understand complex investment processes and identify areas of risk.
- A pragmatic and commercial approach to risk and compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Why Apply?
This is an chance to move beyond traditional risk oversight and work within the investment business, helping shape how Line 1 risk and compliance operates as the investment function continues to evolve.
For a senior leader, this position presents a genuine opportunity to leverage deep investment knowledge in a broader business partnering capacity.
