The role As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will maintain, optimise and scale our organisation’s infrastructure systems, ensuring the reliability and performance of Kubernetes and other critical infrastructure and DevOps components in a hybrid cloud environment. You will work closely with development teams to design and implement solutions that enhance system stability and automate operational tasks. ● EKS platform engineering: Design, implement and maintain highly available, secure Kubernetes clusters using Amazon EKS, including node pool management, upgrade strategies and disaster recovery. Configure Kubernetes networking, ingress and autoscaling using HPA and Karpenter or Cluster Autoscaler. Manage secrets and configuration using Vault. ● CI/CD pipeline management: Build and optimise pipelines using Bitbucket, Jenkins and Ansible to automate code deployment and infrastructure changes, enabling safe, rapid and reliable releases. ● Automation: Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts using Python, Shell or Bash. Optimise blue-green, canary and rolling deployment strategies. ● Observability and monitoring: Implement and enhance monitoring, alerting and logging solutions to provide real-time visibility into system health. Monitor uptime, end-to-end performance and dependent infrastructure to meet SLAs. ● Performance and cost optimisation: Proactively analyse system capacity and optimise AWS resource utilisation, balancing performance, availability and cost-efficiency. ● Security and compliance: Apply Kubernetes and cloud security best practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), pod security, network policies, secrets management and image scanning within EKS.
· Operational reliability:
Troubleshoot complex or critical infrastructure issues, analyse service dependencies, define mitigations and document resolutions. Apply change management and disaster recovery principles, and support incident response and on-call operations.
· Collaboration: Partner with development, product management and cross-functional teams to improve availability, performance, security and maintainability, aligning infrastructure goals with business objectives.
· Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure and automation efficiency. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, and recommend relevant enhancements. You will bring hands-on experience in deploying and maintaining secure, reliable infrastructure, supported by solid troubleshooting and automation skills. To be successful in this role, you will have: ● Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, Amazon EKS and container orchestration. ● Strong AWS cloud experience, with a solid foundation in compute, networking and storage. ● Proficiency in Docker and container lifecycle management. ● Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins and Ansible, and continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment (CI/CD) practices. ● Scripting skills in Python, Bash or Go, supported by experience with Shell or PowerShell automation. ● Knowledge of site reliability engineering (SRE) and DevOps practices,
with familiarity with incident response and on-call rotations. ● Understanding of networking, Kubernetes ingress and autoscaling, and security and compliance in cloud environments, including RBAC, network policies and secrets management. ● Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog or Nagios. ● Experience with artefact management tools such as JFrog and AWS delivery tools such as CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CodeBuild and CodeCommit. ● Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system and infrastructure issues, including Linux and Windows operating systems. ● Excellent communication skills, with the ability to create use case documentation and maintain project knowledge repositories. ● Willingness to learn new technologies and domain areas. To help us level up, you'll ideally have: ● 5+ years of hands-on DevOps or operations experience. ● 2+ years of hands-on cloud experience setting up and managing services or products, or migrating on-premises services or products to cloud infrastructure. ● Hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform (preferred). ● Good understanding of ITIL and Agile concepts. If you only meet some of the requirements for this role, that's okay…We value a diverse range of backgrounds & ideas and believe this is fundamental for our future success. So, if you have the curiosity to learn and the willingness to teach what you know, we'd love to hear from you. Bonus points if you have: ● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant field. ● Project & team management experience preferred but not essential. ● Experience handling transition
