Location:
Sydney / Remote (Australia only) Type: Contract / Project-based, with potential to move full-time About Applied IntelligenceApplied Intelligence is an Australian AI engineering company helping businesses turn frontier technology into real-world results. We design, build and deploy bespoke AI-powered software and agents that solve meaningful business problems. Our work spans everything from automating complex operational workflows to building entirely new applications powered by frontier AI models. We're a small, ambitious team focused on delivering high-quality software that creates measurable value for our customers. The RoleWe're looking for a talented, highly autonomous Software Engineer to help design, build and deploy production-grade AI applications for our clients. This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who is passionate about AI-native software development and enjoys taking projects from concept through to production. You'll work closely with the founder, contribute to technical architecture and have significant ownership over the solutions you build. This is initially a contract or project-based chance, with scope to transition into a full-time role as we grow.
What You'll Do
• Design, build and deploy full-stack AI applications, agents and workflow automations. You will be tackling multiple projects in different domains simultaneously.
• Integrate frontier AI models with existing business systems, databases and APIs.
• Use AI-native development tools such as Amp, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor to build software efficiently.
• Own technical delivery, including architecture, implementation, testing, security and deployment.
• Help establish reusable engineering standards and practices as we scale (be opinionated as to how our internal software factory should operate) What We're Looking For
• Strong full-stack engineering experience with technologies such as TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js or Python.
• Experience building and deploying reliable, secure, production-ready applications.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, AI agents and modern AI development tools.
• Solid understanding of databases, cloud infrastructure, APIs, authentication and security.
• High autonomy, strong technical judgement and an ability to deliver end-to-end with minimal oversight.
• A pragmatic, product-minded approach to solving real business problems.
• 3+ years of experience as a software engineer. Bonus: Experience with enterprise integrations, MCP, agentic workflows, Supabase, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Why Join Us?
• Work at the frontier of AI: Build real applications using the latest models and AI engineering tools.
• Meaningful ownership: Take responsibility for solutions from initial architecture through to production.
• Diverse technical challenges: Work across different businesses, industries and use cases.
• Small team, high impact: Work directly with our founder with minimal bureaucracy and significant autonomy.
• Flexible engagement: Start on a contract or project basis, with the potential to join full-time.
• Help shape our engineering capability: Contribute to the tools, standards and architecture that support our future growth. We're particularly interested in engineers who can demonstrate real, working software (or side projects) rather than just prototypes.
