About Newcastle Eye Hospital

Newcastle Eye Hospital Pty Limited is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Enrolled Nurse (EN) to join our dedicated theatre team.

This position is ideal for an experienced Enrolled Nurse with a strong background in operating theatre nursing who is confident working in a busy surgical environment and can make an immediate contribution to our team.

You will work alongside a highly experienced team of ophthalmic surgeons and theatre staff in a professional, supportive environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care.

About the Role

As a Senior Enrolled Nurse, you will play an important role in supporting surgical procedures and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing competent scrub and/or scout nursing support during surgical procedures.
- Preparing operating theatres, surgical instruments and equipment.
- Maintaining strict infection prevention and control standards.
- Supporting surgeons and the theatre team throughout surgical procedures.
- Ensuring patient safety, comfort and dignity at all times.
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and following hospital policies and procedures.
- Contributing to efficient theatre operations and positive patient outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with the wider clinical team to maintain a professional and supportive environment.

Essential Requirements





To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

- Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse (EN).
- A minimum of 8 years of nursing experience.
- At least 3 years of operating theatre experience.
- Previous scrub and/or scout nursing experience.
- Confidence working in a busy hospital operating theatre.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- A professional, reliable and proactive work ethic.
- A commitment to patient safety and quality care.

Previous ophthalmic theatre experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Important: Applicants must hold current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse at the time of application. Applications from candidates who do not currently hold the required registration will not be considered.

Employment Details and Availability

- Position: Senior Enrolled Nurse (EN)
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Location: Newcastle Eye Hospital, Waratah, NSW
- Working Days: Monday to Friday
- Experience Required: Minimum 8 years of nursing experience, including at least 3 years in an operating theatre.

The successful applicant must be available to work rostered shifts between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday to Friday.





Shifts are generally up to 8 hours in duration, with start and finish times varying according to operational requirements.

Flexibility with rostering is an essential requirement of this position.
