The Leichhardt Hotel Taroom is seeking a reliable, hardworking and motivated Cook to join our team. This is a full-time position offering a minimum of 38 hours a week. The successful candidate will thrive in a quick-paced kitchen environment, have a passion for valuable pub-style food, and be able to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene and presentation. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys the challenges of a busy pub kitchen, can keep up with a strong service and takes pride in serving hearty, quality meals.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present meals to a high standard in a busy pub kitchen
- Deliver consistent, quality pub-style meals during busy service periods
- Assist with menu preparation, daily specials and food preparation
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen at all times
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
- Monitor food stock levels, assist with ordering and minimise food waste
- Ensure food is stored, handled and labelled correctly
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
- Manage multiple orders efficiently during peak periods
- Assist with cleaning duties, kitchen close-down and general maintenance of kitchen equipment
About you
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or similar cooking role
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure during busy service
- Good time management, organisation and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings and public holidays
- Reliable, punctual and dependable
