Skipper – Whitsundays Day Tours

Take the helm and help create unforgettable days in the Whitsundays.

Pay: From AU$45.00 per hour
Hours: 20–40 hours per week, with 9-hour working days
Location: Airlie Beach, Whitsundays

Spirit of Whitsundays is looking for an experienced skipper with a passion for the ocean, strong leadership skills and the personality to make every guest feel welcome.

You’ll operate our 11.9-metre power catamaran, taking guests on day tours through the spectacular Whitsundays, including Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet and snorkelling experiences.

We’re looking for someone who can run a tight ship while creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere on board. You’ll lead by example, support your crew and keep each day running smoothly—from the first welcome to the final goodbye.

What you’ll be doing

- Safely operating our 11.9-metre power catamaran on Whitsundays day tours.
- Planning each trip around weather, tides and operating conditions.
- Leading the crew and coordinating activities, guest movements and transfers.
- Engaging with guests and helping make their day a holiday highlight.
- Delivering clear briefings and maintaining robust safety standards.
- Completing vessel checks, daily logs and required operational records.
- Overseeing vessel presentation, reporting defects and coordinating routine care.
- Making sound decisions and keeping your crew informed throughout the day.

What you’ll bring





- Current Coxswain Grade 1 NC qualification or higher.
- At least 12 months of practical experience behind the helm.
- Local Whitsundays operating experience is a definite advantage.
- Strong boat-handling skills and sound judgement.
- A safety-focused approach and pride in running a well-organised vessel.
- Clear communication and the ability to lead and support a crew.
- A friendly, approachable personality—you enjoy people as much as boating.
- Reliability and a willingness to pitch in.
