About the role

Freedom Financial Superannuation Solutions is seeking a Senior SMSF Accountant to join our growing team in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that offers a unique prospect to specialise in Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) accounting and taxation within a dynamic and progressive firm.

In this role, you will take on a position of significant responsibility, providing expert guidance to clients on complex SMSF matters whilst mentoring junior team members. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the high standards of compliance and service that Freedom Financial Superannuation Solutions is known for, whilst contributing to the strategic growth of our SMSF practice.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare and lodge SMSF tax returns and financial statements in accordance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements and superannuation legislation

- Conduct thorough SMSF compliance reviews and audits, identifying potential tax planning opportunities and risk areas

- Provide strategic tax advice to SMSF trustees on contribution strategies, investment structures and retirement planning

- Manage client relationships, responding to enquiries and ensuring a high standard of service delivery

- Review and advise on SMSF trust deeds, investment strategies and operating procedures

- Stay current with changes to superannuation legislation, taxation law and ATO rulings affecting SMSFs

- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring quality output

- Liaise with financial planners, legal advisers and other professionals regarding client SMSF matters





- Maintain detailed client files and documentation in accordance with firm standards and professional obligations

What we're looking for

- A minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in SMSF accounting and taxation

- Strong knowledge of superannuation legislation, ATO requirements and SMSF compliance obligations

- Advanced proficiency in tax and accounting software relevant to SMSF preparation and lodgement

- Excellent client communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly

- Demonstrated ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively to a team environment

- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail

- Experience in mentoring and developing junior team members is highly desirable

- Knowledge of financial planning principles and investment structures is advantageous
