Job Description

SEC offers hybrid working with offices in Melbourne’s CBD and Morwell.

Do work that makes a difference

Join an organisation who’s making a real difference to Victoria’s energy future. SEC’s passionate people are working to support the transition to renewable energy and delivering affordable, reliable, renewable energy for all Victorians.

What your day could look like

Each day, you’ll partner with architects, product owners, engineers and operational stakeholders to shape and deliver secure, scalable technology solutions that support SEC’s renewable energy ambitions. Through technical leadership, team development & engineering governance, you’ll set technical direction, guide and mentor engineers, make key design decisions, manage technical risks and ensure solutions meet agreed standards for security, reliability, scalability and long-term maintainability. Remaining hands‑on, you’ll contribute to design reviews, prototyping and complex problem-solving while fostering a high‑performing engineering culture.

You’ll drive engineering delivery & stakeholder collaboration by coordinating priorities, removing delivery obstacles and working closely with stakeholders to ensure technical outcomes align with business needs. Across platform, integration & cloud solutions, you’ll oversee the development of applications, APIs, cloud services and SCADA telemetry integrations, ensuring critical data and digital services are resilient, secure and operationally effective as SEC continues to scale its renewable energy portfolio.

What you need to be successful

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a blend of deep technical expertise, hands‑on engineering capability and people leadership experience. You’ll be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery,

working across cloud platforms, applications and integrations while guiding engineers, influencing stakeholders and ensuring solutions remain secure, scalable and fit for purpose.

- Extensive experience designing, building and operating production software, with proven responsibility for technical direction, engineering delivery and establishing effective engineering practices within complex or growing technology environments.
- Strong full stack engineering and leadership capability, including recent hands‑on experience across frontend and backend development, code reviews, solution design and data handling, alongside a demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, establish standards and make sound technical decisions.
- Deep expertise in cloud, integration and platform engineering, with experience across AWS and/or Azure, enterprise APIs and integrations, distributed systems, up-to-date CI/CD practices, infrastructure as code, security controls and the resolution of complex production issues.

Highly desirable:

- Experience supporting integrations for industrial telemetry, SCADA, historian or edge gateway integrations, with an understanding of time‑series data quality, buffering, replay and recovery from connectivity interruptions.
- Familiarity with Operational Technology (OT) environments, including protocols such as OPC UA or MQTT, and experience supporting renewable energy assets or other operationally critical infrastructure environments.
