About IRM Group

IRM Group is a Melbourne-based commercial fitout and refurbishment contractor with more than 30 years’ experience. We deliver projects across commercial offices, education, government, health and research environments.

Our directors, project managers, supervisors and in-house trades work closely together, supported by our own joinery division. We take a practical approach to construction, with clear communication, reliable delivery and attention to the finished result.

The role

We are seeking a Building Associate to supervise and coordinate day-to-day construction activities on our commercial fitout and refurbishment projects.

Reporting to the Project Manager and Construction Manager, you will organise subcontractors, in-house trades, labour, materials and equipment. You will monitor safety, quality and progress, ensuring work follows the drawings, specifications and construction programme.

This is primarily an onsite supervision and coordination role. You will also complete occasional supporting tasks, including labouring, material handling, site protection, housekeeping and minor miscellaneous site works within your skills and qualifications.

Key responsibilities

- Supervise daily construction activities and coordinate subcontractors, in-house trades and labour.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications and construction details,

raising discrepancies and seeking clarification from the project team.
- Plan work sequences and organise labour, materials, deliveries and equipment to meet the construction programme.
- Coordinate building and services trades, identify clashes and check work before walls and ceilings are closed up.
- Inspect workmanship and materials against drawings, specifications and applicable building requirements, arranging rectification where needed.
- Implement and monitor IRM’s onsite OHS procedures, including inductions, toolbox talks, SWMS checks, safety inspections and corrective actions.
- Identify and address hazards, stop unsafe work and promptly report incidents and unresolved safety issues to management.
- Maintain accurate site records covering progress, labour, deliveries, inspections, safety and incidents.
- Monitor resource usage and programme progress, reporting delays, additional works and potential cost impacts to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate site access, deliveries and work areas with building management and occupants, including in live and occupied environments.
- Organise completion works, defects rectification and site readiness for handover.

- Complete occasional practical site tasks while maintaining effective supervision and coordination of the works.

About you

You will have:

- Experience supervising and coordinating building construction works, preferably commercial fitout and refurbishment projects.
- A relevant Diploma or higher qualification in building and construction, or at least three years of relevant experience in construction site supervision and coordination.
- The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical details.
- Practical knowledge of construction methods, trade sequencing, building requirements and quality standards.
- Experience implementing onsite OHS procedures, including inductions, SWMS, inspections and hazard management.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to direct trades, resolve site issues and keep the project team informed.
- Good organisation and the ability to maintain accurate site records.
- A current construction induction White Card and driver’s licence.
- A trade background and experience working in occupied buildings will be highly regarded.

What we offer

- A full-time position with an established commercial fitout and refurbishment contractor.
- Varied projects across Melbourne.
- Direct support from experienced directors, construction managers and project managers.
- Established in-house trades and joinery capability.
- A practical team environment where your experience and input are valued.
- An annual salary of up to $80,000 .
