Sharp & Carter is partnering with a well-regarded accounting and business advisory firm in Melbourne to recruit both an Accountant and a Senior Accountant. The Roles

Two levels, one team. Whether you're a few years into public practice and ready to own more, or an experienced senior ready to set the technical benchmark, there's a seat for you. Both roles sit alongside a Client Advisor and an Associate Client Advisor, and both are built on the same belief: brilliant compliance work is the foundation for brilliant advice.

The Accountant

You'll own allocated compliance work from commencement through to review, preparing financial statements, tax returns, BAS and workpapers across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.

This is a role designed for growth: as your judgement sharpens you'll take on more complex clients and structures, with a defined route to Senior Accountant.

The Senior Accountant

You're the team's technical anchor. You'll set the quality benchmark, review and coach Accountants (onshore and offshore), manage a client list in partnership with the Associate Client Advisor and join client meetings with the Client Advisor, spotting the advisory opportunities that turn a compliance conversation into a bigger one.



Career pathways lead to Associate Client Advisor or an advanced technical specialist track.

Key responsibilities include:

- Preparing financial statements, tax returns, BAS and related compliance work across a range of entity structures

- Producing organised, well-supported, review-ready workpapers with minimal rework

- Identifying technical risks early and escalating the right matters before they reach the client

- Responding to clients promptly and professionally, and keeping the team across job status and timelines

- Using technology and automation to lift accuracy and efficiency

- Contributing to better templates, processes and consistency across the team

- Senior Accountant: reviewing and coaching Accountants, providing technical guidance as their go-to contact, managing a client list and identifying advisory and referral opportunities

About You

Both levels

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline

- Public practice or business advisory experience, preparing financial statements, tax returns and BAS across a range of entity types

- Comfortable with cloud accounting, tax and practice management systems, and strong Microsoft Office skills

- Curious, accountable and open to feedback, with the confidence to ask for help early





- Clear, professional communication with clients and colleagues

Accountant

- CA or CPA studies commenced, or the intention to start

- Working knowledge of GST, trust distributions, dividend imputation, Division 7A, CGT and superannuation fundamentals

- Good judgement on routine matters, and the instincts to know when to escalate

Senior Accountant

- CA or CPA qualified, or close to completion

- Deep technical knowledge across CGT concessions and rollovers, Division 7A, trust distributions and streaming, group structuring, tax planning, hire purchase and leases, and state-based taxes

- Experience reviewing and coaching junior team members, with a leadership mindset
- An eye for advisory opportunities beyond the compliance work
