Carmel School is seeking a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable Canteen Assistant to join our school canteen team.

About the Role

We are looking for someone to join our team on a casual basis for the remainder of 2026, with a regular Friday shift commencing in 2027, along with opportunities for additional casual relief shifts as required.

The role offers school-hours work, making it an ideal opportunity for someone seeking employment within a school environment. Flexibility to work additional shifts, sometimes at short notice, will be highly regarded.

Working alongside our Canteen Manager and team, the successful applicant will assist with food preparation, baking, stock management and recess and lunch services across our Primary and High School campuses.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with daily food preparation, cooking and baking, following recipes and food safety procedures.

- Provide friendly and efficient service to students during recess and lunch.

- Assist with recess and lunch services at the High School, with food prepared at the Primary School canteen and transported to the High School.

- Replenish stock, monitor inventory, identify shortages and record items requiring replenishment.

- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic working environment in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.

- Work collaboratively with other canteen staff, offering assistance wherever needed.

- Prioritise student wellbeing and provide a positive and welcoming canteen experience.

About You

We are looking for someone who:
- Is friendly, approachable and genuinely enjoys interacting with students.





- Has a good understanding of basic cooking and baking techniques and can confidently follow recipes.

- Is flexible and willing to work additional shifts, including at short notice when required.

- Can work quickly, efficiently and calmly in a busy environment.

- Is a reliable team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to assist wherever needed.

- Demonstrates good organisational skills and attention to detail.

- Understands the importance of food safety, hygiene and maintaining a protected working environment.

- Holds relevant food safety training or is willing to complete the required training.

Previous experience in a school canteen, café, hospitality or food preparation environment would be highly regarded.

Employment Details

Employment Type: Casual for the remainder of 2026, with a regular Friday shift anticipated from the commencement of the 2027 school year. The ongoing employment arrangement will be confirmed prior to commencement in 2027.

Hours: During school hours, with additional relief shifts available as required.

Location: Carmel School, Dianella, Western Australia.

Commencement: As soon as practicable.
