Fremantle

CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to develop boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.

The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.

The College Counsellor plays an important role in supporting the social, emotional and mental health wellbeing of students at CBC Fremantle. Working within the College's Pastoral Care and Wellbeing framework, the College Counsellor provides qualified, confidential and evidence-informed counselling, early intervention and wellbeing support to students experiencing personal, social, emotional, behavioural, family or school-related challenges.

The position seeks to strengthen students' resilience, emotional regulation, positive relationships, self-awareness and capacity to manage challenges, enabling them to engage positively in their education and personal development.

As a member of the College's broader Pastoral Care team, the Counsellor works collaboratively with College Psychologists, Heads of House, the Deputy Principal – Pastoral Care, families and external professionals to ensure students receive appropriate, timely and coordinated support.

The College Counsellor contributes to the Catholic and Edmund Rice identity of CBC Fremantle, promoting the dignity of every young person and supporting the College's commitment to developing young men of character, compassion and integrity.

Accountability and professional expectations The College Counsellor is directly accountable to the Deputy Principal – Pastoral Care and works within the College's established student wellbeing and safeguarding structures.

The Counsellor is expected to exercise professional autonomy within their qualifications and scope of practice, while maintaining effective communication with relevant College personnel.

Given the part-time nature of the appointment, particular emphasis will be placed on clear referral processes, effective case prioritisation, appropriate documentation, timely escalation of significant concerns and continuity of student support on days when the Counsellor is not present. The Deputy Principal of Pastoral Care will oversee agreed triage and escalation pathways, including nominated coverage and communication arrangements on days when the Counsellor is not on campus.

The role does not replace the responsibilities of College Psychologists, external mental health practitioners or emergency services. Students requiring specialist psychological assessment, diagnosis, intensive treatment or urgent mental health intervention will be referred through appropriate pathways.
