About us
We are 1 and One, a small consulting team doing interesting work alongside and supporting Government. Our projects are complex, our standards are high, and we look after each other.
We work hard and we work smart. We value practical expertise, transparent communication and people who take ownership of their work.
We’re seeking expressions of interest from experienced platform engineers for an upcoming Digital Infrastructure Transformation Project opportunity in Melbourne and Adelaide. We’re building a team with a strong OpenShift focus and complementary Hyper-V expertise. You can specialise in either platform; you don’t need to cover both.
About you
You are an experienced OpenShift or Hyper-V engineer who enjoys turning approved designs into working, reliable infrastructure. You have built platforms, supported migrations and worked through the technical challenges that arise when systems move into production.
Your strengths may sit in Linux and container platforms, or Windows Server and virtualisation. You understand how compute, networking, storage, identity and security fit together, and you know when to bring in specialist support.
You troubleshoot methodically, document your work clearly and follow through. You are comfortable working alongside project teams, vendors and operational staff to deliver platforms they can confidently support.
You will succeed here if
- You have hands-on experience implementing and supporting production OpenShift or Hyper-V environments.
- You can review technical designs, identify dependencies and contribute practical implementation advice.
- You have planned or delivered infrastructure migrations, including testing, cutover and rollback activities.
- You use automation and scripting to make builds and configuration repeatable.
- You understand platform security, hardening, access controls and technical validation.
- You produce clear build records, as-built documentation and operational procedures.
- You work collaboratively and share knowledge with the people taking ownership of the platform.
For OpenShift opportunities, experience with Linux, cluster administration, operators, networking, persistent storage and platform upgrades will be highly regarded.
For Hyper-V opportunities, experience with Windows Server, failover clustering, PowerShell, virtual networking, workload migration and backup and recovery will be highly regarded.
VMware migration experience would be valuable, as would work with Ceph software-defined storage, Omnissa virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) or restricted environments. You don’t need experience across every technology listed.
What is on offer
- The opportunity to contribute to a significant Government infrastructure transformation.
- Practical engineering work spanning implementation, migration, testing and operational handover.
- Collaboration with technical specialists, project teams and operational stakeholders.
- A supportive, straight-talking team that values quality work and shared responsibility.
The indicative service period is November 2026 to September 2028.
These opportunities are based in Melbourne or Adelaide and require an active Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance or higher. You’ll be onsite at least four days a week, so this isn’t a remote or hybrid role. Roles are subject to contract award, with individual start dates and engagement terms still to be confirmed.
Apply now
Send your resume and a short note about yourself. Skip the formal cover letter. Tell us whether your strengths are in OpenShift, Hyper-V or both, and outline a relevant platform implementation or migration you have delivered.
