Boat Licence Queensland (BLQ) is expanding its Brisbane training operations, including a planned new North Brisbane outlet.
We are looking for experienced recreational or commercial powerboat operators who would like to become professional BoatSafe Trainers.
PWC (Jet Ski) experience is preferred but not essential. BLQ can fund the additional qualifications and practical training needed for suitable applicants to become qualified BoatSafe Training Providers.
BLQ has already successfully trained new BoatSafe Training Providers through this program. We are now offering the same opportunity to suitable Brisbane applicants.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a current Australian recreational boat licence or recognised commercial marine qualification, together with extensive practical experience operating recreational or commercial powerboats.
- Live in Brisbane and be available to work at Manly and our planned North Brisbane outlet.
- Have unrestricted Australian work rights and be available for the training commitment.
- Applicants with PWC experience, commercial marine qualifications (including Coxswain or Master), or teaching/TAE qualifications are highly regarded, but these are not essential.
FREE TRAINER PATHWAY
BLQ funds approved training and qualifications required to become a BoatSafe Training Provider, including where needed:
- An external Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL) course through another BoatSafe Training Organisation.
- BoatSafe practical training, mentoring and assessment,
including supervised PWC riding and the on-water experience needed to develop practical competency.
BLQ can assist suitable applicants with obtaining a Queensland Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL), where required.
Applicants without a PWCL can complete the external Jet Ski licence course, generally within one day, subject to successful completion.
BLQ will provide supervised PWC training and on-water experience during the pathway so applicants can develop the required practical skills and sea hours before final assessment and approval.
The pathway generally takes approximately eight weeks overall, depending on existing qualifications and training availability.
Applicants should allow approximately 20 TAE/BoatSafe training days, generally 15 at Brisbane (Manly) and five at the Gold Coast. Applicants requiring a Coxswain qualification should allow approximately seven additional training days.
BLQ pays the approved training costs. Applicants contribute their training time without remuneration and meet their own travel, accommodation, meals and personal expenses.
GUARANTEED ONGOING BRISBANE WORK
Following successful completion of the pathway and required BoatSafe approvals, BLQ will offer ongoing full time or part-time subcontractor work in Brisbane.
Remuneration is approximately $60–$65 per hour gross equivalent, under an independent contractor arrangement requiring your own ABN. Actual hours depend on bookings and agreed availability.
You’ll become part of our professional Brisbane training team, working on the water and teaching the next generation of safe boat and PWC operators.
