Your new company:
A prominent Victorian State Government Organisation
Your new role
Reporting to the Lead Data Architect, the Principal Data Analyst is a key delivery contributor within the Program's data function.
The role has a dual focus: supporting the migration of data from ICCMS (the Integrated Client and Case Management System) and other legacy systems into target platforms, and contributing to the build-out of the Enterprise Data Platform.
The Principal Data
Analyst performs data profiling, analysis, and quality assessment to inform migration design; maps source data to target models; supports the development and testing of transformation logic; and contributes analytical capability to data platform build activities.
In this role, you will:
- Profile, assess, and document source data from ICCMS and other legacy systems — including data quality, completeness, structural anomalies, and entity relationships — to inform migration architecture and transformation design decisions made by the Lead Data Architect.
- Develop and maintain source-to-target data mappings that accurately represent the transformation logic required to move data from legacy systems into target platform structures, working within the canonical data model and standards established by the Lead Data Architect.
- Support the design, development, and testing of data transformation scripts and pipelines — collaborating with data engineers and the Lead Data Architect to ensure transformation logic is accurate, traceable, and consistent with migration architecture standards.
- Design and execute data quality validation procedures across migration runs — identifying, documenting, and escalating data quality issues and anomalies, and contributing to the resolution of data quality problems in source systems or transformation logic.
- Contribute analytical and data modelling capability to the build-out of the Enterprise Data Platform — supporting data ingestion design, metadata and cataloguing activities, and the development of reporting and analytics layer structures in accordance with the Lead Data Architect's design direction
- Develop and maintain data documentation artefacts — including data dictionaries, entity definitions, lineage documentation, and data quality rules — that support both migration delivery and the long-term operability of the Enterprise Data Platform in BAU.
What you need to succeed
- Demonstrated experience profiling and analysing data from complex legacy enterprise or case management systems - including identifying structural anomalies, data quality issues, undocumented relationships, and gaps between system-of-record data and real-world operational meaning.
- Experience with SQL and data profiling tools at a level sufficient for independent analysis without engineering support for routine queries.
- Source-to-target data mapping and transformation logic.
- Demonstrated experience developing source-to-target data mappings in a data migration or integration context — translating data from source schemas into target data models, documenting transformation logic clearly, and working iteratively with architects and engineers to refine mappings as migration complexity is better understood.
- Familiarity with ETL or ELT patterns,
and the ability to engage substantively with data engineers on transformation pipeline design without requiring translation.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute data quality validation procedures — defining quality rules, building validation datasets, executing validation runs against migrated data, and producing clear and actionable quality assessment outputs for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working in environments where source data quality is variable and where data quality findings have direct consequence for migration sequencing or approach decisions.
- Data modelling, documentation, and metadata management.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining data documentation artefacts — including data dictionaries, entity-relationship models, data lineage documentation, and metadata cataloguing — to a standard sufficient for consumption by both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
- Working familiarity with up-to-date cloud-based data platform or analytics environments — including experience contributing to data ingestion pipeline development, working with data warehouse or data lakehouse structures, or supporting the build-out of reporting and analytics layers.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Azure data platform ecosystem (including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Microsoft Fabric) is advantageous.
What you'll get in return
- Offering excellent daily rate.
- A long-term contract within the Victorian State Government.
- Flexible working arrangements, including 3 day per week in the office.
