As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced and technically strong Senior Database Administrator to join our Infrastructure team and support the databases that underpin Australia's critical payment services.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to take ownership of our Oracle and PostgreSQL database environments supporting the PowerCARD payments platform.

Reporting to the Infrastructure Global Lead, you will be responsible for database design, implementation, performance optimisation, high availability, disaster recovery, security, backup and recovery processes across production and non-production environments.

This is a senior technical role that will serve as a key subject matter expert for database technologies while supporting delivery, DevOps, cloud, and operational teams across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Engineering

- Design, install, configure and maintain Oracle and PostgreSQL database environments
- Support both production and non-production database platforms
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patching and lifecycle management
- Define and maintain database standards, policies and operational procedures




- Drive continuous improvement across database infrastructure and operations

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

- Implement and manage highly available database architectures
- Maintain database replication, clustering and failover environments
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing and execution
- Ensure business-critical payment systems maintain maximum uptime and resilience

Performance & Capacity Management

- Monitor database health, performance and capacity
- Optimise queries, indexes and batch workloads
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database incidents
- Perform capacity planning and growth forecasting
- Work closely with engineering teams to improve overall platform performance

Security, Backup & Compliance

- Design and maintain backup and recovery strategies
- Conduct regular recovery testing and restore validation
- Manage database user access, permissions and security controls
- Implement encryption, auditing and compliance controls aligned with PCI DSS requirements
- Support internal and external audit activities through evidence collection and reporting

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks and documentation
- Partner with DevOps, Cloud Engineering and Delivery teams on solution design and implementation
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for database-related issues

What We're Looking For

Experience





- 5+ years of experience administering Oracle and/or PostgreSQL databases in enterprise production environments
- Strong experience with database performance tuning and optimisation
- Proven expertise in high availability, replication, clustering and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience managing backup, recovery and security controls
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mission-critical environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
