About the role

Burdett's Sand Soil & Stone is seeking an experienced Truck and Dog operator to join our transport team on a casual basis. This is a hands-on driving position based in Werribee, VIC 3030, where you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of articulated truck and dog combinations. This role is critical to our logistics operations, ensuring that materials are transported reliably to our customers and sites across the region. You will play a vital part in maintaining our reputation for professional and dependable service in the road transport industry.

Key responsibilities

- Operate truck and dog combinations safely and professionally in accordance with all road transport regulations and company policies

- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical safety and report any defects or maintenance issues

- Transport sand, soil, stone and related materials to designated destinations, maintaining schedules and meeting delivery commitments

- Secure and load cargo appropriately, ensuring weight distribution complies with legal requirements

- Maintain accurate logbooks and trip documentation in accordance with transport regulations

- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors and customers regarding delivery status and any issues

- Adhere to fatigue management regulations and operate within legal driving hour limits

- Maintain a clean and professional appearance and conduct

- Contribute to a safe workplace culture by following all health and safety procedures

What we're looking for

- Current, valid Heavy Rigid (HR) or Articulated (HC) driver's license with a clean driving record

- Proven experience operating truck and dog combinations in road transport

- Sound knowledge of road transport regulations, fatigue management laws and vehicle safety standards

- Excellent spatial awareness,



hazard perception and defensive driving skills

- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for vehicle and cargo safety

- Strong communication skills and a professional attitude with customers and team members

- Reliable, punctual and committed to meeting delivery schedules

- Physical fitness to perform loading and unloading duties as required

- Experience with materials handling in the quarry or aggregates industry is highly desirable

- Knowledge of GPS navigation systems and basic vehicle maintenance is advantageous
