At STEPS, we're a purpose-driven not-for-profit creating real change in our communities. We believe everyone deserves the chance to grow towards a brighter future.
The Work Mates program focuses on empowering participants to build confidence, develop practical employability skills, and achieve meaningful employment outcomes. It provides long-term and personalised employment coaching to youth and adults with a NDIS plan, and delivers tailored, hands-on support.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your day behind a desk. It's varied, hands-on and on the go, with time spent working directly with participants and connecting with employers and the local community.
Due to the rapid growth of the Work Mates program, we're looking for a casual Employment Support Coach with availability between 15–30 hours per week, with hours available between 8:30am and 3:30pm.
What You'll Do:
- Support individuals to identify goals and overcome barriers
- Coach participants in resumes, job searching, and interview skills
- Deliver engaging, person-centred job readiness training
- Develop confidence, social skills, and workplace readiness
- Connect with employers and advocate for participant opportunities
- Track progress and maintain accurate, confidential records
About You:
You'll be someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and gets energy from seeing others grow.
You'll be comfortable adapting your approach to suit different participants, whether that's helping someone strengthen their basic literacy and numeracy skills, build their confidence in a group setting, prepare for their first interview or settle into a work experience placement.
You'll also bring:
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with disability
- Robust interpersonal skills and a natural ability to build rapport
- Explicit and adaptable communication skills
- Patience, empathy and the ability to meet people where they're at
- A proactive approach and willingness to get out into the community
- Confidence building relationships with employers and local organisations
- The ability to work independently while being part of a supportive team
Mandatory Requirements:
- Certificate III (or higher) in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Current Working with Children card (blue card) and NDIS Worker Screening (yellow card)
- NDIS Worker orientation module
Why Join STEPS?
- Be part of a values-driven organisation making real community impact
- Work in a collaborative team environment
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
- Make a genuine difference to people's lives every day
- Access to not-for-profit salary packaging!
