About Us
IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is part of IAG, a specialist advisory firm supporting complex infrastructure, Defence and national security programs across Australia. Our DNS team works closely with Commonwealth agencies and industry partners to deliver specialist expertise into nationally significant programs. Our success depends on our ability to identify, engage and mobilise highly specialised talent quickly and effectively.
IAG is recognised as a Veteran Friendly Employer under the Veteran Employment Program.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Assistant Program Manager to support a highly technical Defence integration team in Canberra with its forward work planning, internal project management, risk management and work take-on processes. You'll help senior management deliver the annual program of work, budget and phasing, vendor and project engagement, and business support.
Because the team is highly technical, a strong background in both communications engineering and systems engineering matters. It lets you turn technical concepts into defined work packages that can be delivered both inside the team and by other technical and non-technical organisations. You may also be asked to chair governance meetings, prepare executive-level briefs, present project status updates and support gate reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Help create and maintain the forward program of work, using tasking from the chain of command and Defence forums
- Manage, coordinate and synchronise external requests for support, helping define scope, deliverables,
resources and schedules
- Manage, coordinate and synchronise internal tasks across teams, including work take-on schedules
- Help develop project management processes, and manage program support officer outcomes
- Support risk management practices, and act as secretariat for internal and external engagements
- Support easy and complex procurement activities under the Commonwealth Procurement Rules
- Help plan and run support to major Defence exercises and activities
- Chair governance meetings, prepare executive briefs and present project status updates, as required
Required
- Degree or higher in project or program management, or a recognised certification such as PMI Program Management Professional, PRINCE2 Practitioner, an Agile certification, or AIPM Certified Practising Project Director or Project Manager
- 10+ years' industry experience in program management
- Background in both communications engineering and systems engineering
- Proven experience as a program manager or in a similar role, ideally supporting secure ICT systems in Defence
- Experience in organisational and project risk management
- Experience delivering within the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act (PGPA)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Atlassian Jira,
and experience with agile project software
- Understanding of the Defence Capability System policy and processes
- Experience with network integration in a Defence environment
Engagement Details
- Location: Symonston, Canberra, ACT
- Full-time onsite preferred. Hybrid work option may be available, case by case
