About the Role

We're looking for a Laravel Engineer to join our high-performing engineering team building the platform behind Superhero's products.

You'll work across the full development lifecycle: designing and shipping features, optimising performance at scale and maintaining the quality bar across the codebase. AI coding tools are part of how this team works, and we're looking for someone who uses them confidently and knows when to override them.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable features for Superhero's core Laravel applications, defining and driving technical standards across the engineering team.
- Actively leverage AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code) to accelerate feature delivery while applying strong critical judgment, rigorous testing, and code review standards before pushing to production.
- Conduct thorough peer code reviews (combining manual inspection with AI assistance) to ensure performance, security, and maintainability across the codebase.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, SRE and QA engineers. Foster a collaborative and positive team environment.
- Take a hands-on approach in developing critical features and modules. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
- Diagnose and optimize performance bottlenecks across relational databases (MariaDB/MySQL) and application layers, optimizing Eloquent queries,



caching strategies (Redis), and queue workers.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues, providing timely resolution to production problems. Implement monitoring and logging solutions to proactively identify issues.
- Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of the codebase.
- Evaluate and champion emerging technologies, tools, and best practices within the Laravel and broader PHP ecosystem to drive operational excellence and continuous development efficiency.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration test suites to maintain high test coverage and reliability for critical financial workflows.
- Implement robust security practices and ensure strict compliance with modern web application security and industry standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the development process. Seek opportunities to optimise workflows and enhance team productivity.

Requirements & Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of hands-on Laravel development experience.
- Deep fluency with the modern Laravel ecosystem (Laravel 11/12, Eloquent, Queues, Events, Jobs) and modern PHP 8.2+ features.
- Proven experience with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) including schema design, query optimisation, and migrations at scale.
- Practical experience incorporating AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) into daily workflows alongside the discipline to validate, refactor, and override AI output when needed.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with an innovative mindset.




- Attention to detail in both code and project management, coupled with a customer-centric approach.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and business needs.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across departments and functions.

Nice to have

- Experience working with large data sets and databases.
- Experience in fintech, online trading, or stockbroking platforms.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure.
