Our Education Assistants are valued members of a highly collaborative team. While working closely with teachers and allied professionals, they are also expected to be confident, capable and independent practitioners who use initiative, apply skilled judgement and fulfil the responsibilities of their role with limited guidance, in accordance with the JDF.
As a Special Needs Education Assistant at Kensington SS, you will ideally:
- Bring a positive, enthusiastic and student-centred approach to your work.
- Have a genuine passion for working with young people with disability and believe strongly in their capacity to learn, grow and achieve.
- Thrive as part of a collaborative team while also being able to work independently and use initiative with limited guidance.
- Understand students with complex disabilities, their individual learning needs and the adjustments and supports that enable them to participate and succeed.
- Support the implementation of AAC systems to strengthen student communication, participation, learning, choice and independence.
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies that promote student wellbeing, engagement, participation and learning.
- Confidently support students with complex health, personal care and wellbeing needs, where required.
- Implement explicit teaching and learning programs in accordance with individual student IEPs and teacher direction.
- Collect, record and use student data to monitor progress and inform educational practice.
- Maintain high expectations for every student's learning, engagement, independence and personal growth.
- Share our commitment to preparing every student with the skills, confidence and independence they need for a happy, successful and fulfilling life beyond school.
Suitable applicants should be able to apply the techniques, skills, knowledge and relevant principles and practices gained through previous experience, on-the-job learning and/or relevant educational qualifications.
