Brand Manager – Preston VIC

Kogan People Solutions are working with a well-established Australian importer and distributor of specialty food and beverage products. Its beverage division manages a portfolio of imported wines from leading European producers, together with a complementary spirits range, distributed across retail, on-premise, food-service and major-account channels. As the portfolio continues to grow, our client is seeking an experienced Brand Manager to take responsibility for its imported wine and spirits brands in the Australian market.

- Location: Preston VIC
- Salary: $80,000–$90,000 plus superannuation per annum
- Tenure: Full time and ongoing

The role

Working directly with our client’s international producers, you will interpret the technical information they supply, including vineyard practice, varietal composition, vinification, maturation and regional style, and translate it into brand positioning and marketing strategy for the Australian market. The role is dedicated to the wine and spirits portfolio, applying technical wine knowledge in a commercial marketing setting; it does not involve winemaking or vineyard work.

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake market and competitor research across the Australian wine and spirits sector, and analyse sales, depletion, customer and channel data to identify demand trends, pricing sensitivity and opportunities.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for the imported wine and spirits portfolio, and establish brand positioning according to provenance, varietal composition, vinification method, quality level, price point, target customer and distribution channel.
- Translate technical winery and product information into commercially relevant brand propositions for Australian trade customers and consumers.
- Evaluate prospective wines,

producers and recent labels from both a technical and a commercial perspective, and recommend market positioning.
- Analyse pricing and competitive positioning, and advise on wholesale and promotional pricing taking account of landed cost, competitor pricing, margin requirements and producer positioning.
- Recommend distribution channels for individual wines across premium on-premise, independent retail, food-service and major accounts, and review channel performance.
- Prepare go-to-market strategies for new products, coordinate their introduction across all channels, and monitor market response.
- Prepare annual marketing objectives, budgets and promotional calendars, and develop brand-specific marketing programs.
- Coordinate trade tastings, masterclasses, product launches, wine dinners, trade shows, sommelier engagement and consumer activations.
- Maintain brand identity and positioning guidelines for each international producer, and review all marketing communications for technical accuracy and alignment with producer positioning.
- Direct the Content Creator/Graphic Designer in the development of tasting notes, product information, trade presentations, digital content and point-of-sale material.
- Develop product and brand education material for the sales team, and conduct or coordinate internal wine education and product training.
- Maintain regular communication with international producers on brand positioning, marketing programs and Australian market development,

and participate in producer tastings and technical presentations.
- Monitor and report to the Commercial Director on sales performance, distribution development, promotional results, marketing expenditure and return on marketing investment, with evidence-based recommendations.

Skills and Experience

- A level of skill commensurate with a bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least one year of relevant experience.
- At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- Technical wine knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in brand management, marketing or product management, ideally within wine, spirits or premium beverages.
- Market and competitor research, and the analysis of sales and channel data.
- Brand positioning, consumer and customer segmentation, and product-mix analysis.
- Pricing analysis and promotional planning.
- Distribution and channel strategy, and new-product introduction.
- Marketing communications, campaign planning and post-campaign analysis.
- Budget management and reporting to senior management.
- Confident presentation skills, with the ability to lead tastings, masterclasses and trade education.

This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a distinctive imported wine and spirits portfolio, working closely with international producers and a growing Australian distribution business.

You must possess unrestricted Australian working rights to apply.
