We are seeking an experienced, currently approved facilitator to take carriage of our Intensive Drink and Drug Driver Behaviour Change Program following the departure of our incumbent facilitator. This is a hands-on delivery role: you will run the group sessions, complete the individual sessions, and own the assessment, record-keeping and reporting that sit behind them.
The Intensive program comprises four sessions delivered over three weeks — three group sessions of approximately 3.5 hours each, plus one individual session — for participants with a second or subsequent offence, a BAC of 0.15 or above, a combined alcohol and drug offence, a refusal to provide a sample, or a serious motor vehicle offence involving alcohol or drugs. Group sizes are capped in line with Departmental requirements.
Because this cohort presents with higher complexity and higher risk, the role calls for a clinician who is confident holding a group, comfortable with mandated clients, and rigorous about compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate group sessions of the Intensive Drink and Drug Driver Behaviour Change Program in accordance with the Department of Transport and Planning program manual, conditions of approval and session plans, without variation to the approved content.
- Conduct the individual session for each participant, including exploration of substance use, driving behaviour, risk of reoffending and relapse prevention planning.
- Apply motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural approaches to engage a mandated group and support genuine behaviour change rather than mere attendance.
- Co-facilitate and provide back-up facilitation for the Drink Driver and Drug Driver (standard) programs as required.
- Manage group dynamics,
participant conduct, disclosure and distress safely, including participants who present intoxicated, hostile or disengaged, and escalated in line with Arrow Health policy.
- Complete screening and assessment for each participant using the approved instruments, including substance use questionnaires and any required risk screening.
- Identify participants requiring further AOD, mental health or family violence support and make warm, documented referrals to appropriate services.
- Recognise and respond to acute risk, including suicidality and withdrawal, in line with Arrow Health's clinical governance framework.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, session notes and participant files, and complete all documentation within required timeframes.
- Determine completion or non-completion against the Department's criteria and issue certificates of completion accordingly.
About you
- Current Department of Transport and Planning (VicRoads) facilitator approval specifically covering the Intensive Drink and Drug Driver Program.
- A tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, counselling, health or human services (or an equivalent discipline accepted by the Department).
- Completed AOD competencies consistent with the Victorian minimum qualification strategy, including CHCAOD004 Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues,
CHCAOD006 Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues, and CHCAOD009 Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans, together with a competency in facilitating or managing small groups.
- Approved foundation training in Motivational Interviewing (completed 2012 or later).
- Forensic Fundamentals training (or an equivalent accepted by the Department).
- A minimum of two years' experience delivering group work to mandated, forensic or court-referred client groups.
- Demonstrated high-level group facilitation and co-facilitation skills for behaviour change, using motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioural techniques with a resistant or ambivalent audience.
- Sound understanding of the drivers of drink and drug driving, risk-taking behaviour and recidivism, and of the Victorian road safety and relicensing context.
- Rigorous documentation and reporting practice, and demonstrated ability to work within a compliance and audit framework.
- A current Victorian driver licence, with no more than six demerit points and no current or recent licence suspension, cancellation or disqualification.
- A defined, well-established program with an existing referral pipeline and a structured handover from the outgoing facilitator.
- Part-time hours with a predictable delivery cycle - suitable for a clinician balancing private practice or other commitments.
- Regular clinical supervision and support for continuing career development.
- A multidisciplinary team across AOD, mental health and allied health services.
