About the opportunity
Ever wanted the opportunity to build and run a workshop your way? This could be it.
Bonfiglioli, a global leader in power transmission solutions, is expanding its Western Australian operations, and we're looking for the right person to help develop and lead our new Kewdale workshop.
This isn't your typical Workshop Manager position. We're offering a genuine opportunity to get involved from the ground up, help shape the workshop, build your own team and play a key role in the continued growth of our WA business.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about mechanical engineering, enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in their work and has the drive to make things happen.
You don't need previous management or supervisory experience to apply. If you're a skilled Mechanical Fitter with the right attitude, initiative and ambition to step into leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
The role – Build it, shape it, lead it
Our Kewdale facility is in its early stages of development, giving you a unique opportunity to influence how the workshop operates and grows.
Initially, this will be a hands-on working Manager / Supervisor position, involving mechanical assembly, gearbox servicing, inspection, repairs and general workshop activities.
As we're still establishing the operation, you'll also need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and assist with some industrial spray painting, stores duties, goods receival, packing and dispatch.
These additional responsibilities are part of the initial establishment phase, while we continue building our team.
And this is where the opportunity gets exciting.
As our WA operation expands, we plan to recruit additional Mechanical Fitters, Apprentices, a dedicated Painter and Stores personnel.
You'll have the opportunity to be involved in recruiting, training and mentoring these employees, helping develop a capable, motivated and successful workshop team.
Over time, the position will evolve into a broader leadership and management role, with increased responsibility for workshop planning, productivity, staff development and operational performance.
We're looking for someone who wants to grow with the business and take pride in what they've helped build.
Key responsibilities
- Perform hands-on mechanical assembly, servicing, inspection, troubleshooting and repair of industrial gearboxes and power transmission equipment.
- Help establish, organise and develop our new Kewdale workshop, including systems, procedures and quality standards.
- Coordinate day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Assist with industrial spray painting, surface preparation and finishing of gearboxes during the initial establishment phase.
- Undertake stores responsibilities, including goods receival, stock control, picking, packing and dispatch until dedicated personnel are recruited.
- Work closely with the WA State Manager,
internal sales and engineering teams to meet customer requirements and delivery commitments.
- Plan and prioritise workshop workloads, resources and equipment requirements.
- Maintain workshop tooling, equipment, housekeeping and secure working practices.
- Assist with the recruitment, training and development of additional workshop personnel as the operation expands.
- Mentor and develop apprentices, sharing technical knowledge, practical skills and good workshop practices.
- Identify and implement improvements to workshop efficiency, productivity, quality and overall performance.
- Take ownership of workshop standards and lead by example in everything you do.
What we're looking for
We're not necessarily looking for someone with years of management experience. We're looking for the right person with the right attitude.

Ideally, you'll bring:
- A recognised trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner or equivalent mechanical trade.
- Strong hands-on mechanical experience, ideally involving industrial gearboxes, rotating equipment or heavy mechanical assemblies.
- Good mechanical aptitude with practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to get involved wherever required.
- A strong work ethic, reliability, accountability and pride in your workmanship.
- The ability to work independently, take initiative and make practical decisions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A commitment to workplace safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- A willingness to assist with painting, stores and dispatch duties during the initial growth phase.
- An interest in developing people, including training and mentoring apprentices.
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to maintain workshop documentation.
- Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia.
- A current Australian driver's licence.
Highly regarded but not essential
- Previous Workshop Manager, Supervisor or Team Leader experience.

- Experience with workshop planning, inventory management or quality management systems.
- Previous experience training or supervising apprentices.
