About you
The primary purpose of this role is to manage an in-house legal practice with primary responsibility for advising on, and conducting litigation on behalf of, the CCC. The role involves leading a team of lawyers who deal with often complex and novel questions of law, and ensuring that the CCC meets its obligations to act as a model litigant.
For this role, we will consider how well you demonstrate the following:
- Significant post admission experience (ideally 10+ years PAE), preferably in public and administrative law and advocacy, with proven capacity to appear as an advocate or instructing counsel on behalf of the Commission.
- Demonstrated high-level litigation experience,
in a government in-house capacity or representing institutional clients across a portfolio of matters. Experience in criminal law, or working in law enforcement or investigative fields, is not a pre-requisite but would be favourably considered.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead a high performing in house legal team, and to guide, mentor, and manage staff and encourage a collaborative culture. Proven ability to lead a team which can work independently and meet deadlines, including those imposed by court orders and statutory requirements.
- High-level verbal and written communication skills applied to influence and persuade. Ability to analyse complex legal and factual issues, and provide legal advice on the most complex investigations undertaken by the Commission.
- Exemplary professional judgment and demonstrated ability to manage conflicts of interest and sensitive information appropriately.
Please note:
- Applicants must be admitted and eligible to practise in Queensland as a legal practitioner.
- Applicants must be eligible to obtain a practising certificate. The successful applicant will be expected to obtain, and maintain, a practising certificate at the CCC's expense.
