Job Description

Take risk beyond the paperwork. Make a difference where it matters most.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

MLG is seeking an experienced Senior Risk, Compliance & Assurance Auditor to strengthen operational risk management, verify critical controls and drive continuous improvement across our diverse operations.

Working closely with the Work Health & Safety Manager and operational leaders, you’ll provide independent, evidence-based assurance to help ensure our critical risk controls are not just documented — they’re understood, implemented and effective in the field.

This is an opportunity for a confident, analytical and hands-on professional who can connect compliance, operational performance and real-world risk reduction.

If you’re passionate about challenging the status quo, identifying emerging risks and making a tangible difference to safety and operational performance, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Lead Risk-Based Audits & Assurance

- Develop and deliver risk-based audit and assurance programs across mining, haulage, civil construction, projects, maintenance and workshop operations.
- Conduct operational risk reviews and assess the effectiveness of critical controls for high-consequence activities.
- Identify material exposures, systemic weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.

Verify Controls Where It Counts

- Get out in the field and verify that critical risk controls are working in practice.

- Assess high-risk activities including mobile plant interaction, haulage, isolation and stored energy, lifting, working at heights, excavation and confined spaces.
- Engage with frontline teams, supervisors, contractors and leaders to build practical understanding and accountability.

Strengthen Compliance & Governance

- Lead scheduled, targeted and thematic audits against applicable WA WHS and mining legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards and MLG requirements.
- Report findings clearly, escalate significant risks and verify corrective actions are effective before closure.
- Support contractor prequalification, mobilisation and ongoing performance assurance.

Turn Data Into Action

- Develop and analyse WHS, risk and assurance KPIs, dashboards and management reports.
- Identify trends, repeat findings, deteriorating performance and emerging risks before they become serious incidents.
- Deliver meaningful insights that drive better decisions and measurable risk reduction.

Drive Incident Learning & Improvement

- Contribute to significant incident investigations and high-potential event reviews.
- Challenge ineffective controls, identify systemic causes and verify corrective actions.
- Translate audit and incident insights into practical improvements across the business.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

We’re looking for a credible and proactive professional who combines strong technical knowledge with the confidence to challenge, influence and deliver results.

Your experience and capabilities will include:

- 7+ years’ relevant experience in operational WHS, risk, assurance or compliance within mining, resources, heavy haulage, civil construction, maintenance or a comparable heavy industry.
- Demonstrated experience planning and conducting risk-based operational and compliance audits across multiple sites or divisions.
- Strong working knowledge of Western Australian WHS and mining legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards and contractor management requirements.
- Practical experience in critical control verification, risk assessment,

incident investigation and corrective action effectiveness reviews.
- Proven ability to analyse performance data, identify systemic issues and prepare clear, evidence-based reports for operational and executive audiences.
- Confidence engaging with frontline workers, operational leaders, contractors and clients.
- The ability to work autonomously, exercise sound professional judgement and travel regularly to metropolitan, regional and remote sites.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with experience using WHS or assurance systems such as MYOSH, STEMS, INX, BMS, Viking or equivalent highly regarded.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory

- Diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline.
- Lead Auditor qualification or demonstrated equivalent auditing capability.
