About us
The Flames Grill Bistro runs the bistro at The Golf House Hotel in Ballarat North. We serve classic pub meals alongside fresh, modern dishes, and our customers are mostly local families, sports fans and regulars. The hotel has two function rooms, and we cater birthdays, club dinners and other events with tailored menus.

The role
We’re looking for an experienced Chef to run the kitchen and keep standards consistent across bistro service. Your duties will include:

- planning the bistro menu and weekly specials
- costing dishes and keeping food and labour costs within budget
- ordering stock, checking deliveries and managing storage and rotation
- preparing and cooking food for lunch and dinner service and for function bookings
- checking the quality and presentation of every plate before it goes out
- keeping food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards in line with Victorian requirements
- training and supervising cooks and kitchen hands, and preparing kitchen rosters
- working with the hotel’s front-of-house team during busy sessions,



such as trivia nights and live sport

What we’re looking for

- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or a higher qualification
- at least 2 years’ full time experience as a Chef in a pub, bistro or restaurant kitchen
- experience with high-volume service and function catering
- a working knowledge of food costing, stock control and menu planning
- experience leading a small kitchen team
- a food safety supervisor certificate, or willingness to get one
- availability for a rotating roster that includes evenings, weekends and public holidays
