Our client is a bespoke / special-purpose machine builder with a long track record of designing and manufacturing packaging and automation equipment. Its case packers, palletisers and conveying systems run in food, beverage and FMCG plants in domestic and international markets.
Every solution is tailored, so engineers see their work go from first concept to a running machine on the customer's floor. The business is growing and now has an prospect for an experienced-or-senior engineer who sets a high standard for design quality.
About the Role
You'll own mechanical design for your projects from sales handover and concept through detailed design, verification and release to manufacturing. Turning customer requirements into machines that are practical, safe and easy to build, you'll help shape how the engineering team works. If you've already led projects and mentored others, you'll do that from day one. If you're a strong designer ready for your first senior role, this is a business that will give you the ownership and support to grow into it.
Specifically, you will:
Lead mechanical design on assigned projects, turning customer specifications into manufacturable equipment
Work closely with sales, projects, manufacturing, commissioning and service, and support pre-sales concepts and estimates
Build concepts, 3D models, assemblies, drawings and BOMs in PTC Creo
Plan your design work against project milestones, and raise risks and constraints early
Carry out design calculations, technical reviews, drawing checks and verification
Apply AS **** and the relevant WHS standards,
and contribute to machinery risk assessments and safety reviews
Provide hands-on support during assembly, testing, installation and commissioning
Work with international manufacturing colleagues to keep engineering outcomes consistent
About You
You're a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys seeing a design become a working machine. You think about who will build, install and service it, not just how it looks in CAD. You can explain a technical decision clearly and stand behind it.
In addition, your degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or similar, you have:
Solid experience designing industrial machinery, automation or material handling equipment
Strong 3D parametric CAD and production drawing skills (Creo preferred, but strong SolidWorks or Inventor users who can switch quickly will be considered)
Working knowledge of AS ****, design verification and design for manufacture
Good planning, problem-solving and communication skills across teams
Valid driving licence
Existing working rights for Australia.
Highly beneficial – but not essential:
Packaging, case packing, palletising or conveying experience
PTC Creo, engineering change control and ISO **** experience
Experience mentoring engineers or leading design reviews
CPEng or RPEQ registration, or working towards it
Installation and commissioning exposure.
This is growth role in a respected business with a tight-knit management team. Join, and you can expect real ownership of your designs, a stable and growing business, and a clear path; whether you're stepping up to senior or already there.
