About the role/What you’ll be doing

Kick-start your career in biostatistics by joining the highly regarded NSW Biostatistics Training Program! This unique, three-year, workplace-based program provides hands‑on experience in biostatistics and the opportunity to make a real impact in public health. As a Trainee Biostatistician, you will complete supervised work placements within the NSW health system, gaining specialist skills, and learning from experts in the field. You will also complete a fully funded Master of Biostatistics degree part‑time through the University of Sydney. Current Master of Biostatistics students are encouraged to apply.

Traineeships commence on 9 February 2027. More information on the NSW Biostatistics Training Program is available on the program website.

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals to support the work of NSW Health. Applicants must demonstrate:

- Eligibility for admission to the Master of Biostatistics at the University of Sydney. This requires a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, science, psychology, medicine, economics or health sciences, or other appropriate qualification, with a minimum credit average mark of 65% or equivalent.

- An aptitude for advanced mathematical work, demonstrated through previous study or work experience. Due to the competitive nature of these traineeships, relevant work experience in a data‑related field is highly desirable.
- High-level knowledge of statistical concepts and methods.
- Extensive experience using statistical software packages.
- The right to work in Australia for the duration of the traineeship. You must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident; a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport; or a citizen of another country with a valid visa that allows you to work in Australia until at least 9 February 2030.
- Applicants who hold bridging visas will not be considered for these roles.
