About Our Client

Our client is an Australian engineering and manufacturing business developing advanced suspension, motion-control and automated handling systems for defence, automotive and other demanding technical applications. Their manufacturing capabilities include precision CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machining, supporting complex components and assemblies.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Programmer with strong attention to detail and practical Mastercam, G-code and multi-axis machining experience. You will turn engineering drawings and models into accurately machined components—from programming and machine setup through to inspection and production troubleshooting.

Working closely with engineering, production and quality teams, you will deliver components that meet dimensional, surface-finish and technical requirements while improving machining efficiency and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, verify and optimise CNC programs using Mastercam.
- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC equipment, including tooling, workholding and offsets.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T; and relevant AS 1100 drawing conventions.
- Read and edit G-code to support protected, accurate machining.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, machining sequences, feeds and speeds.
- Prove out programs using simulation, controlled trials and first-off inspection.
- Inspect components using precision measuring equipment and record results.




- Troubleshoot dimensional variation, tool wear, surface-finish issues and machining faults.
- Maintain program revision control, setup information and component traceability.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality personnel to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Improve cycle times, tool life and repeatability while maintaining quality.
- Maintain safe work practices and an organised machining environment.

About You

You will bring:
- A relevant machining trade qualification or equivalent demonstrated capability.
- Proven CNC programming, setup and machining experience.
- Practical proficiency in Mastercam.
- Strong understanding of G-code and multi-axis machining.
- Confidence interpreting complex drawings, tolerances, GD&T; and surface-finish requirements.
- Knowledge of AS 1100 technical drawing conventions.
- Competence using micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
- Careful attention to detail and a disciplined approach to checking your work.
- The ability to troubleshoot independently and collaborate with engineering and production teams.

Experience in defence, aerospace, automotive or other precision engineering environments will be highly regarded. Familiarity with Okuma, Haas or Mazak equipment would also be valuable.
