About Our Client
Our client is an Australian engineering and manufacturing business producing advanced suspension, motion-control and automated handling systems for defence, automotive and other technical industries. Their manufacturing operations combine engineering, precision machining, metal forming and welding to produce components and assemblies for demanding applications.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Fabricator / Welder with relevant welding certification and practical experience in MIG, TIG and aluminium fabrication, supported by press brake and laser cutting experience. This hands-on manufacturing role covers material preparation, cutting, forming, fit-up, welding and inspection.
You will work from engineering drawings and approved procedures, producing accurate, consistent assemblies with high standards of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate components and assemblies from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding, including aluminium work, within your qualifications and approved procedures.
- Prepare materials, joints and surfaces for fabrication and welding.
- Set up and operate press brake and laser cutting equipment within your training and authorisation.
- Measure, mark out, cut, bend, drill, fit and assemble components.
- Use jigs, fixtures, clamps and suitable fabrication sequences to maintain alignment and control distortion.
- Interpret weld symbols, dimensions, tolerances and fabrication instructions.
- Follow welding procedure specifications and relevant quality requirements.
- Inspect dimensions and weld appearance, identifying defects or non-conformances.
- Complete production, inspection and material-traceability records.
- Collaborate with engineering, production and quality teams to resolve fabrication issues.
- Maintain safe equipment use, housekeeping and workshop practices.
About You
You will bring:
- A relevant fabrication, welding or boilermaking trade qualification, or recognised equivalent.
- Relevant welder certification or current welding qualifications, with evidence of the processes and materials covered.
- Proven MIG and TIG welding experience.
- Practical aluminium welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience operating press brakes and laser cutting equipment.
- Confidence interpreting engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Solid measurement, fit-up and inspection skills.
- Understanding of weld preparation, heat input, distortion control and consistent weld quality.
- High attention to detail and a willingness to raise issues before they affect the finished product.
- A reliable, collaborative approach to meeting quality and production requirements.
Experience in defence, automotive, aerospace or other controlled manufacturing environments will be highly regarded. Familiarity with documented welding procedures, inspection records and material traceability would be valuable.
Why Join?
- Contribute to advanced engineering products across automotive and defence applications.
- Apply a broad range of fabrication skills across cutting, forming and welding.
- Work alongside engineering and quality teams.
- Join a manufacturing environment focused on workmanship, accuracy and continuous improvement.
