Experienced Youth Work Opportunities
KYTT Bridge Youth Workers and Living and Life Skills Educator
At Karinya, we believe every young person deserves to feel secure, supported and hopeful about their future.
For more than 45 years, we have walked alongside young people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, family breakdown and crisis. We are seeking experienced Youth Workers and a Living and Life Skills Educator to join our KYTT team in Launceston.
We are small enough to care, professional enough to lead and courageous enough to keep improving. Our work is built on strong relationships, clear expectations, safety and a belief in what is possible for every young person.
Available roles
KYTT Bridge Youth Workers
Multiple fixed-term, part-time and casual positions | SCHADS Award Level 3
KYTT Bridge provides supported residential accommodation for young people aged 15–18 who are experiencing homelessness, housing instability, family breakdown, disengagement from education or involvement with the youth justice system.
As a Youth Worker, you will be a consistent and reliable person in the everyday lives of young people. You will work alongside them to create safety, build trust, support routines and strengthen the practical skills needed for independence.
You will be part of the everyday rhythm of the home: creating a calm, safe and welcoming environment; building genuine relationships; sharing meals and activities; supporting routines; and being present when young people need support. You will work alongside the team to put young people’s plans into practice, respond to issues as they arise and help maintain a respectful shared living environment.
These roles operate within a 24/7 roster and require availability to work overnight and sleepover shifts, weekend day shifts and public holidays.
Living and Life Skills Educator
Fixed-term, full-time 1.0 FTE | SCHADS Award Level 3
The Living and Life Skills Educator works across KYTT Outreach and KYTT Bridge Residential, supporting young people to build the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed to live independently.
You will deliver individual and small-group learning in cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, tenancy, health and wellbeing, transport, education and employment readiness. You will also coordinate recreation, school holiday activities and community connection opportunities that reflect young people’s interests, strengths, culture and goals.
This role is about more than teaching practical skills. It is about helping young people recognise their strengths, build confidence and see new possibilities for their future.
About you
We are looking for experienced staff who understand the challenges facing young people with complex lives. You will have experience supporting young people impacted by trauma, homelessness, mental health concerns, alcohol and other drug use, family violence and/or youth justice involvement.
You will understand that behaviour is communication and that trauma should be understood, not judged. You will bring warmth, sound judgement, consistency and the ability to hold kindness and accountability together.
Across both roles, you will demonstrate:
- Experience building respectful,
professional relationships with young people
- Trauma-informed, relational, strengths-based and culturally safe practice
- The ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis, conflict and changing situations
- Clear communication, strong documentation and the ability to work as part of a team
- A commitment to safeguarding, professional boundaries and the rights of young people
- A belief that young people are the experts in their own lives and should be heard in decisions that affect them
Youth Worker applicants will hold a Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services, Disability, Mental Health or a related field, or have relevant equivalent experience.
Living and Life Skills Educator applicants will hold a relevant qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Education, Social Work or a related field, or demonstrate relevant experience delivering practical life skills and group-based programs with young people.
A current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration, National Police Check and Tasmanian Driver Licence are required. Youth Worker applicants must also hold, or be willing to obtain, a current First Aid Certificate.
