About The Company
Our client is a well-established, growing business in the trade services sector, delivering residential and commercial work across the region. It's a hands-on, practical operation with real crews, real jobs and real customers, backed by a strong leadership team and clear plans for the future.
They're now looking for a Senior Accountant to join the business in Newcastle.
About The Role
Reporting to senior leadership, you'll play a central role in the finance function, with responsibilities including:
- End-to-end financial reporting and month-end close
- Preparation of statutory accounts and management reports
- Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management, including job costing and margin visibility
- Coordinating audit processes and working with external advisors
- Improving financial controls, processes and reporting
- Partnering with operations to understand job profitability, labour utilisation and working capital
- Supporting commercial decision making and growth initiatives
- Preparing reporting and insights for the leadership team and board
About You You're a technically strong accountant who's just as comfortable talking numbers with an operations manager as you are presenting to senior leadership. You understand that in a trade business, the numbers live out in the field: in job sheets, van stock, labour hours and payment terms. You enjoy getting close to the operation to understand what's really driving results.
You're practical,
down to earth and happy to roll up your sleeves. You thrive with autonomy, communicate clearly, build trust quickly with people at every level of the business, and take pride in delivering accurate, timely information that helps the business make better decisions.
Ideally, you've worked in or closely with a blue-collar environment such as trades, construction, field services, manufacturing, logistics or similar, and you understand the pace and pressures that come with it.
The Requirements
- CA qualified, or CPA qualified with solid experience in a blue-collar or trade-based business
- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards (AASB/IFRS)
- Background in Big Four or business advisory is highly regarded
- Commercial experience outside of audit is essential
- Experience in trades, construction, field services, manufacturing or another operational environment is a solid advantage
- Comfortable working autonomously with broad responsibility
- Commercial mindset with the ambition to progress into a Finance Manager role
- Newcastle based and happy to work five days a week in the office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
What's On Offer
- High-visibility role with exposure to senior leadership
- Broad remit with genuine influence on the business
- Career pathway to Finance Manager
- Stable business with strong growth plans
- Newcastle-based role
- Attractive salary package
