Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric

We're partnering with a well-established Queensland public sector organisation seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join its internal Data & Analytics team.

This is an excellent chance for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, solving complex data challenges and working with modern Microsoft technologies.

You'll join an established team responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting a modern enterprise data platform, with a strong focus on Microsoft Fabric, data quality, automation and delivering trusted information to business stakeholders.

The Opportunity

Working alongside experienced data professionals, you'll play a key role in developing and improving the organisation's data engineering capabilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Designing, developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric.
- Building and enhancing Lakehouse and Warehouse solutions within the Fabric ecosystem.
- Developing data transformations using Python, PySpark and SQL.
- Implementing and maintaining Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers.
- Improving data quality, validation, reconciliation and monitoring processes.
- Optimising data pipelines and improving platform performance.
- Supporting CI/CD, automated deployments and engineering best practices.
- Troubleshooting technical issues and supporting existing production data solutions.
- Collaborating with analysts, developers and business stakeholders to deliver reliable data solutions.





About You We're looking for a Data Engineer who enjoys remaining technically hands-on and can contribute confidently within an established team.

Ideally, you'll bring:

- Strong commercial experience in data engineering and enterprise data platforms.
- Practical, hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric .
- Experience with Fabric Lakehouse, OneLake, Data Pipelines, Notebooks and Dataflows Gen2.
- Strong Python, PySpark and SQL development skills.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake or Azure Synapse.
- Understanding of Medallion Architecture, Delta Lake and dimensional data modelling.
- Experience implementing data quality controls, reconciliation and validation processes.
- Familiarity with Git, Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
