Active Kids Group is seeking a Service Cook to join their team!

This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate cook to play a meaningful role in children's health and wellbeing at Rose Bay Cottage, a small, welcoming centre in Sydney's eastern suburbs catering for 40 children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. In this part-time role, the successful candidate will plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, contributing to positive mealtime experiences and healthy eating habits in a supportive and friendly team environment.

What you'll be doing?

- Planning nutritious menus: Plan and prepare balanced meals and snacks for children in line with centre requirements, helping to fuel their growth and development.
- Following best-practice guidelines: Apply the Munch & Move guidelines when developing menus and food offerings to support healthy habits from an early age.
- Catering to individual needs: Ensure all meals meet dietary, cultural, allergy and intolerance requirements so every child feels included and cared for at mealtimes.
- Maintaining a safe kitchen: Uphold high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness in accordance with regulations, keeping the kitchen a safe space for all.
- Managing kitchen operations: Oversee food ordering,



stock control and budget considerations to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
- Creating seasonal menus: Develop seasonal menus that encourage healthy eating habits and introduce children to a variety of nutritious foods.
- Collaborating with educators: Work alongside educators to support positive and enjoyable mealtime experiences for the children.
- Ensuring compliance: Maintain compliance with all relevant food safety legislation and childcare regulations to keep children secure and healthy.

Who are they looking for?

- Nutrition knowledge: Sound knowledge of children's nutritional needs and healthy menu planning is important for creating meals that support growing bodies and minds.
- Food safety expertise: Knowledge of food safety standards and safe kitchen practices will help maintain a clean and secure environment for food preparation.
- Dietary inclusivity: The ability to cater for a wide range of dietary requirements, including allergies and cultural needs, ensures every child's needs are met at mealtimes.
- Childcare cooking experience (preferred): Experience as a cook in a childcare, education, or similar setting would be a great asset,



though candidates with no prior experience in this specific setting are welcomed to apply if they bring relevant culinary skills.
- Program familiarity (advantageous): An understanding of the Munch & Move program, or a willingness to learn, would be beneficial in shaping healthy menu choices.
- English language proficiency: English is required for communicating with the team and understanding food safety and dietary documentation.
