Primary School Tutor – Qualified VIT-Registered Teacher
Blooming Minds Learning | Melbourne’s South-Eastern Suburbs
Independent contractor | $72–$81.60 per lesson

Love teaching and helping children grow in confidence? Join Blooming Minds Learning to deliver personalised, one-on-one tutoring that makes a meaningful difference.

We’re looking for qualified teachers with current VIT registration to support primary school students across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. This flexible opportunity suits teachers looking to complement classroom or relief teaching, or build a tutoring workload around their other commitments.

About us

Founded by Anna, a registered primary school teacher with close to ten years of classroom experience, Blooming Minds Learning provides caring, personalised tutoring for students from Prep to Year 6.

We help children strengthen their reading, writing and maths skills, overcome learning challenges and recognise their strengths. Lessons take place in students’ homes or at local libraries.

We choose our tutors for their warmth and patience as much as their teaching expertise. Our focus is on growing confident learners through purposeful lessons and positive relationships.

The role

As a Blooming Minds tutor, you will:

- Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons based on each student’s needs and learning goals.
- Support primary literacy and numeracy, including reading, phonics, writing and maths.
- Create a welcoming learning environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things.
- Adapt your teaching to different abilities, interests and learning needs.
- Monitor progress and provide a short written summary after each lesson, including practical suggestions for learning at home.
- Communicate professionally with families and the Blooming Minds team.
- Uphold our child safety policy and tutor code of conduct.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has:

- A completed teaching qualification relevant to primary education.
- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.

- A strong understanding of primary literacy and numeracy.
- A warm, patient and encouraging approach.
- The ability to plan purposeful lessons and respond to individual learning needs.
- Strong organisation, reliability and communication skills.
- Their own transport and willingness to travel to agreed local lesson locations.
- An ABN for this independent contractor engagement.
- Two professional references, ideally including one from a school.

Experience supporting children with additional learning needs is valued.

Where you’ll work

We’re recruiting across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, including:

- Frankston and surrounds: Frankston, Frankston South, Frankston North, Langwarrin, Langwarrin South, Pearcedale, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Sandhurst and Skye.

You nominate your preferred suburbs and travel radius—you are not expected to service the entire region.

What we offer

- Flexibility to nominate your availability and preferred travel radius.
- Opportunities to work locally within your preferred service area.

- Access to lesson resources and a simple tutor portal.
- A supportive, teacher-led team that values your professional skills.
- The opportunity to build ongoing relationships with students and see the difference your teaching makes.

Availability and payment

Payment is $72–$81.60 per 60-minute lesson, with your starting rate based on teaching experience and agreed before you begin.

Your agreed payment per lesson remains the same regardless of family discounts or package pricing. Rates may be reviewed and increased based on performance, teaching quality and contribution to student progress.

Tutors typically undertake 5–12 tutoring hours per week. You can nominate fewer or additional hours to suit your availability. Bookings depend on student demand, location and availability; hours are not guaranteed.

This is an independent contractor opportunity. The scope of lesson preparation, progress notes, travel and payment arrangements will be discussed before engagement.
