- Share your passion to connect, deliver, integrate and shape the Burwood Community and its City Economy
Something new is taking shape at Burwood: a team built to
turn outstanding places, strong partnerships and bold ideas into real opportunity.
As our city enters a major period of population growth,
investment, development and transformation, we’re establishing a new Place
& Strategic Partnerships team focused on shaping great places,
strengthening our local economy, building powerful partnerships and turning
opportunities into action. As part of building this new team, we’re recruiting
to three new roles, bringing together people with different skills,
perspectives and ideas who want to make a visible impact on a city.
The City Economy Lead is one of them.
Your mission is simple: put Burwood’s business community and
economy at the heart of the City’s transformation.
You’ll be out in the city building relationships with
businesses, understanding what they need, identifying opportunities and
connecting people and ideas across Council.
You’ll help turn conversations into action, whether that
means a new activation, business program, partnership, grant opportunity,
precinct initiative or a completely new idea we haven’t tried before.
And you’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team helping
shape some of Burwood’s most exciting projects across placemaking, economic
development, strategic partnerships and investment, public domain planning,
landscape architecture, precinct transformation,
the night-time economy and
more.
The City Economy Lead will:-

- Integrate – Connect businesses to
opportunities across Council, from placemaking and events to culture,
precinct improvements and the night-time economy.

to major city economy initiatives, including Burwood’s Special
Entertainment Precinct and Purple Flag program.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary
qualifications in economic development, urban planning, marketing, place

build strong relationships with businesses and stakeholders, with the
confidence to be visible in the business community, start conversations,

- Proven experience
delivering economic development, business engagement, placemaking or
place-based initiatives, with the ability to turn ideas and feedback into
practical programs, pilots,
activations and partnerships.
- The ability to connect
businesses with opportunities across Council and work collaboratively with
internal teams to integrate the business community into projects, events,
activations and other city initiatives.
- Experience delivering or
contributing to city economy or night-time economy initiatives, with the

Precinct and Purple Flag accreditation.
- Strong research and
analytical skills, with experience using data, audits and stakeholder
feedback to understand precinct performance and translate insights into
practical recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder
engagement and partnership-building skills, with confidence working across
business, government, industry, community organisations and internal
teams.
- Experience identifying
and pursuing grants, external funding and partnership opportunities that
support economic development outcomes.

strategy and policy into practical outcomes, manage competing priorities
and deliver projects in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
