Boat Licence Queensland (BLQ) is seeking experienced recreational and commercial boat operators to join our established Gold Coast training team at VMR Southport.
We have immediate opportunities for experienced boat operators who would like to turn their practical boating experience into a rewarding career as a qualified BoatSafe Trainer.
BLQ funds the required qualifications and provides structured practical training, with ongoing Gold Coast subcontractor work offered following successful completion and BoatSafe approval.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
• Hold a current Australian recreational boat licence or recognised commercial marine qualification, together with extensive practical experience operating recreational or commercial powerboats.
• Live on the Gold Coast or within reasonable travelling distance of Southport.
• Have unrestricted Australian work rights and be available for the required training commitment.
Personal Watercraft (PWC / Jet Ski) experience is preferred but not essential. Applicants without a PWCL can obtain this qualification through an external BoatSafe Training Organisation, funded by BLQ.
Commercial marine qualifications, including Coxswain or Master, and Certificate IV Training & Assessment (TAE) qualifications are highly regarded but not essential.
BLQ FREE TRAINER PATHWAY
For experienced boat operators who are not yet qualified BoatSafe Trainers, BLQ funds approved training and qualifications, including where required:
• Commercial Coxswain qualifications.
• Selected Certificate IV Training & Assessment (TAE) units.
• Assistance with obtaining a Queensland Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL), where required.
• An external Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL)
The pathway generally takes approximately six weeks, depending on existing qualifications and training availability.
Applicants should allow approximately 20 training days, with approximately seven additional days for those requiring a Coxswain qualification.
BLQ pays the approved training costs. Applicants contribute their training time without remuneration and cover their own travel, accommodation, meals and personal expenses.
Applicants who already hold relevant qualifications may be able to complete a shorter pathway, subject to MSQ requirements and individual assessment.
ONGOING GOLD COAST WORK
Following successful completion of training and the required BoatSafe approvals, BLQ will offer ongoing full-time or part-time subcontractor work at our Gold Coast outlet.
Remuneration is approximately $60–$65 per hour gross equivalent, under an independent contractor arrangement requiring your own ABN. Actual hours depend on bookings and agreed availability.
You'll join our established Gold Coast training team, working on the water and helping the next generation of Queensland boat and PWC operators develop safe and confident operating skills.
APPLY THROUGH SEEK
If you have extensive recreational or commercial powerboat experience and are interested in becoming a professional BoatSafe Trainer, we'd like to hear from you.
Please submit your current resume and a short cover letter describing your practical boating experience, existing qualifications and suitability for this opportunity.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a detailed questionnaire.
