About the role

We work on each client file as a team. Every file is split into clearly defined parts, and each team member is responsible for completing their part thoroughly and according to our procedures, so the next person can pick up from where they left off with confidence. You will be part of that team, working on payroll, reconciliations and compliance across a range of clients, including multiple recurring payroll cycles.

Key responsibilities

- Complete your allocated bookkeeping tasks on client files, including accounts payable and receivable and bank reconciliations.

- Process recurring payroll cycles accurately and on time.

- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, payroll tax and other statutory obligations as allocated.

- Process end-of-month reconciliations and journal entries.

- Check your own work against our procedures and checklists before passing it on.

- Let the team know when something is unusual, incomplete or belongs to another part of the file, rather than working around it.

- Raise questions or suggested improvements to our procedures with the team.

- Liaise with clients and external accountants as required.

About you

- Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience in Australia.

- Extensive experience in payroll.

- Strong knowledge of Australian taxation regulations, including GST, PAYG withholding, payroll tax and superannuation.

- Proficiency in Xero, and payroll software such as Xero Payroll and Employment Hero.

- A genuinely meticulous approach: you check,

cross-check and finish what you start.

- Patience, and a willingness to learn and follow established procedures, even where you have done things differently before.

- You work well in a team: friendly, respectful, and comfortable with clearly defined roles.

- You communicate clearly and ask when you are unsure, rather than assume.

- Able to work from our Chadstone office for most of your hours for at least the first 6 months.

- A certification in bookkeeping, accounting or a related field is desirable but not essential.

About us

We are an established bookkeeping practice in Chadstone. Accuracy and completeness come first. We would rather a job be done properly than quickly, without spending more time on it than it needs. We follow documented processes and procedures. They keep our work consistent across clients and across the team. Everyone knows their part of the file. Speed comes with familiarity. We don't expect you to work at full pace from day one. In your first six months the focus is on learning our procedures and our clients properly; efficiency builds from there.

Benefits

- Competitive salary.

- A structured, supportive training period, with time to learn our way of doing things properly.

- A small, collaborative team where everyone knows their role.

- Explicit, documented procedures.

- Part-time hours, with flexible arrangements to discuss once you are settled in.
