Our client is an established Australian payments business, issuing cards and running payment programs for large organisations and government. They’re building a new global, cloud-first platform that will eventually replace their existing systems. Australia is next to go live, starting with a brand-current product launching here first.
This role is the first hire in a current Melbourne engineering team building on that platform.
What you’ll be doing
Building out the new platform for the Australian market in C# / .NET on Azure
Turning architecture requirements into strong, well-thought-through designs, and leading the technical build
Working closely with the global platform team based in the UK
Using AI-led engineering every day. The team runs its development process with AI agents (BMAD), and you’ll help other engineers adopt the same practices
Helping shape how the Melbourne team works as it grows
Tech setting
C# / .NET • SQL Server • Azure (AKS,
containers, Service Bus) • Redis
What they’re looking for
Strong senior backend experience in C# / .NET
Commercial cloud experience: Azure preferred, AWS is fine
Hands-on experience with an AI-led development framework (BMAD, OpenSpec or similar), or a clear track record of investing serious time in it
Comfortable working independently and with a team in another time zone. This includes some evening calls, with flexibility around your hours
Happy to pick up some front-end work when needed
Payments or fintech experience is a bonus, not a requirement
Why join?
Greenfield, cloud-first, AI-native from day one
A genuinely hard technical problem: moving several live platforms onto one
Early influence as one of the first engineers in a new team
An experienced leadership team that has built and scaled a payments business before
Flexible hybrid: up to two days a week in the Melbourne office
