Tullamarine

We're a small tight knit team (5-6 Staff), family-owned specialty roastery in Tullamarine running two brands under one roof.

Bonacci Coffee is our caffeinated arm. Decaf Co is our decaf exclusive brand. Together we roast for thousands of customers across Australia and cafes around Melbourne.

We roast every day and we care a lot about getting it right.

The role

You'll be working across three roasters (1kg, 15kg, 30kg), running anywhere from 3 to 20 roasts in a day depending on order volume.

The work is roughly 50/50 between roasting and packing, with packing usually edging ahead. Roasting is a numbers game, not an art and being quick to act matters, so we need someone who moves with intent and is obsessed with all things in specialty coffee, pays attention to the finest details and did I say, obsessed with coffee?

This role starts at 3 days per week as we train you up and by the New Year you'll be on 4-5 days/week. Although this could change as we approach Black Friday period and Christmas/New Year closures, it's always a chaotic time of year.

This is a long-term hire. We're investing in someone who wants to grow with the business as we scale across Australia and our recent launch into Austin, Texas. If you're between roles or filling time, this one isn't for you.

What you'll be doing

- Roasting on 1kg, 15kg and 30kg roasters

- Packing daily online orders for Bonacci Coffee and Decaf Co

- Using Shopify and other online tools to manage orders and inventory

- Customer service touchpoints by email, chat and occasionally over the phone

- Keeping the production space clean, organised, and running on time

- Being aware of supplies running low and ordering as required

About you The roastery runs on tech. Roasting software, Shopify, inventory tools,

customer service platforms, AI tools, troubleshooting equipment when something goes sideways. Being genuinely comfortable around software and computers isn't a nice-to-have here. It's most of the job.

Our ideal person is

- Tech-fluent and curious. You pick up recent software fast. You've probably built things for yourself: a website, a gaming rig, a personal project, automations, something. You're the person friends call when their computer breaks. You use AI tools because they're useful, not because someone told you to.

- An absolute coffee geek. You think about origins, processes, extractions. You taste actively. You read about coffee for fun. Roasting experience is a plus, but obsession matters more.

- Experienced as a coffee roaster, OR so obsessed with coffee that you're hungry to learn roasting and you'll do whatever it takes to land this role. Happy to start with packing while you train and earn your stripes as a roaster.

- Shopify-comfortable is a bonus. If you haven't used it, you should be the kind of person who'd be up to speed in a week.

- Strong on customer service. Clear, calm, and helpful in writing and in person.

- Detail-focused. Roasting and packing both reward people who notice small things.

Non-negotiables

- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident only. We are not able to accept applicants on any form of working visa.

Please do not apply if you are on a visa. Your application will not be considered.

- You must have a car and be able to drive. Our warehouse is in Tullamarine and public transport access is painfully limited.

- Looking for a long-term commitment. Not a short or medium-term stopover.

What we offer

- A small, tight-knit team in a family-owned business that genuinely cares about its people
- The chance to work across two specialty brands with real growth and momentum

- Pay based on skill and experience, discussed at interview

- Roasting training if you tick every other box but haven't roasted commercially before
- A clear path to full-time work in late 2026 / 2027

- All the coffee you can drink. Caffeinated or otherwise.

How to apply

Send us your CV and a cover letter specific to this role. Tell us why this one, and why you. Generic letters, or no cover letter at all? We won't even read your application.

To show us you've read this properly, your cover letter needs to answer two questions:

1. Tell us the last coffee you drank or made, what was it? Where was it from? Was it any good?

2. Tell us about a project, side hustle, or anything you've built in your own time that you're proud of. Could be anything. A website, a piece of code, a workshop project, a gaming setup, a small business, something you fixed that nobody asked you to fix. We're interested to see what you do when nobody is watching.

The cover letter can be conversational, no need to be overly elaborate we just want to see where your attention to detail is at.

Applications open until the right person is found. We're hoping to move quickly but won't hire someone outside of our skillset requirements.
