McBurneys is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join our Sydney team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid Australian public practice experience who is looking to broaden their technical knowledge, work directly with a diverse client base and continue developing their career in business services and taxation.

About the role

Working with Accountants, Managers and Principals, you will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and taxation work.

Key responsibilities

- Preparation of financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
- Preparation of income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
- Preparation of Business Activity Statements and Instalment Activity Statements
- Preparation and assistance with Fringe Benefits Tax returns
- GST and other taxation compliance matters
- Performing bookkeeping duties including managing payroll in Xero
- Preparation of tax reconciliations and supporting workpapers
- Liaising with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
- Assisting with ATO correspondence and client matters




- Managing assigned jobs and deadlines to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently

About you

- Previous Australian public practice accounting experience of 3+ years
- Practical experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns
- Experience working with companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
- Sound knowledge of Australian taxation and accounting principles
- Exposure to BAS, IAS, GST and FBT compliance
- A solid understanding of payroll compliance requirements
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work
- Positive written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- A relevant accounting or commerce degree
