As our project pipeline continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated hands-on Leading Hand Welder to step into a pivotal workshop leadership role.

As a Leading Hand, you will balance a dual responsibility: driving productivity on the workshop floor by executing high-standard trade work, while leading, mentoring, and coordinating a small team of boilermaker welders and framing team.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Workshop Leadership: Coordinating daily tasks, managing workflow, and ensuring the team hits production targets safely and on schedule.
- Hands-on Fabrication: Executing heavy structural fabrication, layout, markup, assembly, and high-quality welding (FCAW & GMAW) from complex engineering drawings.
- Quality Assurance: Conducting regular inspections of completed fabrications to ensure strict compliance with engineering specifications and welding standards.
- Safety Enforcement: Championing workshop safety by ensuring the team strictly adheres to Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), standard operating procedures, and PPE requirements.

About You: We are looking for a respected, reliable tradesperson with a strong leadership presence who leads by example on the tools.

To be successful in this role,



you will have:

- Trade Qualification: Australian Recognised Trade Certificate in Engineering (Fabrication/Heavy Welding), able to pass weld test (3G – 4G)
- Leadership Experience: Proven experience as a Leading Hand, Supervisor, or Team Leader within a structural steel fabrication or heavy engineering workshop.
- Technical Mastery: Superior ability to interpret complex technical drawings, geometric developments, and weld procedures (WPS).
- Welding Standards: High proficiency in multi-process welding, with the ability to maintain certifications (e.g., AS1554.1 structural standard).
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills with the capability to motivate a team, resolve floor issues, and liaise effectively with Workshop Management.
- Certifications: Valid White Card, Forklift (LF) licence, and Crane/Dogging tickets are highly desirable.
